My name is Alex. We finally got our sweet double doodle, Mattie in December 2012. My friends have joked that I had a doodle gestation period for how long I had been planning for her arrival and it's been so great to have finally welcomed our little one into the family. I practice acupuncture and massage and am hoping to certify Mattie as a Therapy Dog and be able to have her join me at the office!
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Our little girl, Mattie, is a small medium sized red double doodle. She playful and loves to snuggle and gives great hugs and ear nibbles. She's just about a year now and she continues to be a joy (and to test us every once in a while too!).
I'm including her weight log for others who might want to see what the rate of growth for a very small medium pup looked like:
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I grew up with a cockapoo, a labrador and a golden retriever, all of whom were giant loves. I also have asthma but LOVE dogs. It seems like a perfect match. So far I my asthma has been just fine with Mattie, which is a huge relief!
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Cuddle, play with squeaky toys, fetch, hike and go for long walks. I'm starting with very short runs (per the vets clearance!) and am looking forward to both of us running more this summer and in the fall.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
I think I'll be doing most of it
Favorite Doodle Products?
So far Jones' Beef Tendon, a red squeaking parrot, elk antlers, zukes treats, and pizzles (of course)....

Hi Alex, A long time ago (maybe 2 years?) you asked me to notify you when the Les Poochs brushes are available again.....The company just launched the new Les Poochs brush a few weeks ago. They had been unavailable since late 2012. Anyways, I'm just going through my list of names (hundreds of them) that wanted brushes. They're available in the wide size now at the Doodle Country Store website (there's a link on my page) and I should be getting the regular-sized brushes in very soon. Thank you so much!! :-) Kemp.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOU POST!! You must have some connection to me and my doodle... because yesterday was the day I brought him home for the first time! I was a little nervous...I feel completely clueless haha... And your comment is just what I needed. Bug does like to bite and go after my hair as well as my toes, feet, and hands when playing. He normally stops if I tell him no and sit him down and then reintroduce the toy we were playing with. I am still trying to learn the difference between his "puppy in a new home whine" to the "hey ma, I gotta potty whine"... but we haven't been doing too bad. He did great overnight in his crate for the most part. I am so in love. I will definitely have to check out a bully stick. I love how much you socialized your lil Mattie, I am lucky to have lots of family members (including 9 nieces/nephews ranging from 7th grade to 10 mos :o)) and they have dogs dogs so that will help a little and also want to check out a puppy class for him to socialize in.
I think he is still adjusting, as he is panting/breathing a little heavy sometimes and seems to be yawning a lot... normal from what I read, but still wish I could make it all better fir him :o)
Thank you so much for your note, please don't be upset if I bug you with more questions! You are fabulous :o)
Bug is not home with me yet :o( ... a couple more weeks still... I am completely smitten as well... excited and a little nervous! If you have any pointers please share! And thanks for the welcome :o)
hi Alex & Mattie- Seamus is doing well here. He had a bit of colitis and his vet gave him some meds and he ate lots of sweet potato and chicken. Later this month he starts classes with Brian Burton of Instinct Training. We hope to pass the CGC test this summer. The T Touch is a series of relaxing touches placed on the dog's (or horse or cat....) body that helps alleviates stress and promotes well being;-) I used it often on my older rescue dog Purdy. Hope this finds you well. I enjoy listening to the music on your home page!
Thank you for your question regarding a Les Poochs brush for Mattie. I recommend the Purple brush for Mattie's coat. Double Doodles generally have a denser coat than most other doodle type dogs, so the firm purple brush would be best for her. If you trim Mattie's coat very short you might want to get a softer brush at that time - the Green brush will provide the softer flex for the short coat.
We offer the Les Poochs brushes online at the Doodle Country Store, and each variety is available in two sizes ("Regular size" for small doodles and for brushing the narrow contours, and "Wide size" for most doodles weighing 40-pounds or more). Unfortunately, we are currently sold out of most of our brushes - we do have the wide Green available.
I will be happy to notify you when we receive our next shipment. We have the brushes on order from Germany but it might be a month or more until we receive them.
You can contact me any time at Kemp@doodlecountry.com
Our store website is www.doodlecountry.com - We provide free shipping within the USA on all Les Poochs brushes. :-)
Hi there! We use the purple les pooch. But if I were you, I would ask Kemp with the DoodleCountry store - he's a member on here. You can send photos, describe the coat, and he will help you pick the exact right les pooches that works for your Mattie!
We wouldnt mind having a garden but we will take the dog parks instead. It's been a challenge taking Seamus who is now 35 lbs on the subway. He's such a dumpling! I think we would love Seattle living! His breeder is from Bellingham. TGIF:-)
