I am a retired, widowed empty-nester currently living with Belle, an adorable, feisty doodle puppy, and Honey, a 12-year-old silky terrier and cats Sophie and Roxie.

- Labradoodle Belle came home on August 8, 2015, and she is so lovable. She is an apricot mini with a liver nose and beautiful green eyes. She has been enjoying puppy socials and the occasional visit to doggy day care, and she starts puppy training class on October 10th.

- I was hoping for a relatively small dog with a lab's mellow and friendly personality but less copious shedding. So far, I think I have hit the jackpot with Belle.
- What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
- We are having fun running around the back yard with me yelling "leave it" and "no sticks." I also enjoy training with Belle, who has begun to understand "better hurry pee, "better hurry poop," "sit" (with pointed finger), and sometimes "no cats." We're going to start on "down" soon.

I'll start by saying that Belle, who turned 3 in June, has never had a problem with the booming noises (thunder, fireworks, even guns) that periodically plague our neighborhood. My mother has never enjoyed dogs. She also has never understood why any sane person would want a canine companion. Years ago when my then partner gave me an adorable puppy for Valentine's Day, my Mom's response was "are you going to keep her?" (Actually the dog stayed around much longer than that partner.) I have suspected for a while that despite all my efforts (a la Doggy Dan) to establish myself as the leader of the pack, Belle has concluded that I am here for her entertainment. I carefully refrain from playing with her if she brings me a toy to start her favorite game of fetch, as only I am supposed to initiate play. I wrote a while ago about Belle (14.8 lbs) failing the admission evaluation at doggy day care because she didn't know how to behave with other, mostly bigger, dogs. The owner of a small local day care on a farm agreed to work with Belle (whom she refers to fondly as her "wackadoodle"). Belle started playing under close supervision with a few calm, small dogs. I love my camera! Cameras take such better pictures - inconvenient in that you have to actually carry them with you though if you want to take a picture. I finally got a smart phone but it takes such crummy pictures :-{.
8 pounds it so tiny! The smaller they are, the sooner they are done growing. Ned grew very little past 6 months and was done by 8 months, and he is 28 pounds - technically a mini but huge compare to Belle. She is so cute. I love her coloring, especially her eyes.
