What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Admiral is a goldendoodle!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
We liked the temperament and non-shedding. Plus, they're just so darn cute.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
We haven't gotten him yet. He comes home April 18! But I imagine we're going to love lots and lots of cuddle time and training. We hope we'll all succeed at AKC Star Puppy, CGC and Therapy Dog International. :)
J&J--It's Patti, Baxter's mom. You congratulated us on passing the CGC & asked for tips. I just got back from a vacation and am sorry I could not get to your question earlier. I don't know if you followed my story, but Baxter has had extensive private training in public places, and is great in real life. For some reason, though, he just couldn't pay attention to me in that class' setting! So, he was not loose leash walking, and was very distracted, and had a really hard time with the separation part. I learned never to take his perfect behavior for granted! The biggest thing, for me personally, was to rise above my embarrassment when he acted like he's never had an obedience lesson in his life, keep myself as calm as I could so that he could be as calm as he could be. And practice, practice, practice in settings similar to what will happen on the test. It took Baxter a few classes to show how great he was, and even then nothing was a sure thing. I knew he did all this in real life, but did not know if he'd do it for the test as he didn't always do it in the class! So, in your case, try to find someone w/another dog to practice that part that you find tricky! All this time later, I am still shocked that he was able to pass in that environment because it was a challenging place for him, and I am grateful and relieved it is over. I plan to do therapy dog work w/him, provided he takes to it, and am trying to decide which organization we will try for and then try to pass their test! Good luck to you and Admiral!
Welcome to the GRAD group! Admiral is soooo adorable!! I also have a goldendoodle, Connor. He'll be 5 years old in September and just the sweetest boy ever and a TDI certified therapy dog! Goldendoodles are wonderful! Simon is my 3 year old ALD and also a sweetie!
I hope to meet you and Admiral at an upcoming informal GRAD get together. Between the super heated weather and vacations, the summers are pretty quiet for outings. :-) But when it starts cooling off, we will be getting together. Look forward to seeing you soon!
