Profile Information

What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!: I have a 13 year old Golden Retriever named Kaya. I will be picking up a Goldendoodle pup from Almond Blossom on Feb. 19th, 2011. A Tula/Micah litter.

Update - We now have our pup from ABD. A boy we named Django.

Where did you get your doodle(s)?: Breeder

Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?: I love my sweet Golden, but wanted a slightly smaller less shedding dog.

Does your doodle(s) shed?: Yes!

Who grooms your doodle(s)?: Splish Splash Mobile Dog Grooming

Owen was such a handful after having Kona who is not even normal in his sweetness and obedience. He was the easiest puppy we ever had so Owen's penchant for trouble-making made him seem all the worse. I don't know what we would have done if my husband didn't take them out every morning for a 3-4 mile run. I'm excited to hear about your visit with his litter mate this weekend. Have fun!

I'm not sure I would have made it without DK, and then once I started the ABD group, and was able to chat with other Tula/Micah pup owners...well, all I can say is, "Hallelujah!! I am not alone!!" You will someday be amazed (I know we are) at how much calmer they get as they age. Now, it's Halle who gets the puppy crazies, and runs circles around Kachi. He just stands there and barks at her, and then looks at us, like "Can't you do anything about this?"

Kachi, at times, was a real challenge as well when he was a little(big) guy at Django's age. DoggyDaycare helped Kachi soo much! I like the motto: A good dog is a tired dog!! I still try to live by that one!! :)

I can't tell you how many times I wanted to give him away as well, and i'm an animal lover beyond belief. I also have never had a dog like him. He is not easy by any means. Until I started hearing about other Doodles on this site, I thought it was me, that i just did not train him well, etc. He is much better now at this age, and i love him to death, he is very sweet and smart, but he is still not an easy dog. What i found to work is to tire him out. What's the expression--a tired dog is a good dog. I walk him 2-3 times a day and really he needs more. I also got him a playmate--I adopted a 15 lb terrier mix, and playing with her helps burn off his energy. You may also want to try having him wear a citronella collar--sounds bad, but it's harmless, and when he gets bad he gets a spray. It works for Barley--he just sees me coming with the collar and he quiets down. it will get better as he gets older! honestly, he did not start to calm down until about 2 years of age. hang in there! :)
