Profile Information

About Me:
Math teacher and dog fanatic. My other hobbies are hiking, photography, lapidary, silversmith, digital painting, fishing. I had the best dog ever to share that with me and lost her to kidney failure in October(2010). She was half yellow lab(mom) and half golden retriever(dad).
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have two doodles... Cedar who is a female Labradoodle and I've had her since March 2011(62 pounds honey colored, rose nose) and Reno who is a male Goldendoodle that I rescued last October(82 pounds and white). Cedar is the one in all of the photos I've archived here. Reno was in terrible condition when I got him. He was put in a pen and left to rot. His hair was very long and matted so much he had to be shaved. He was swarming with fleas and had tapeworms. He was very skinny with ribs showing. No training. He is 1000% better now!!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder, Rescue
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Swimming ability and able to withstand wet climates. I live right on the edge of a rain forest trail that I hike every day.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Swim, hike, travel and use them as my in-home photography models ;)
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Yes!, A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
I do most of the grooming, but they get good haircuts 3 times a year.
Favorite Doodle Products?
Andis Clippers and blades, good (expensive though) brushes, Ruffwear raincoats and harnesses.

I think about 2 inches is a good length for ease of care. It also should be enough to hold some insulating air I think. And those temps. are not really low for a doodle. You are so diligent, combing and brushing daily.

I think you do a good job on the videos but your still pictures are great!! I loved Cedar swimming and I was sure it was a calendar shoo in but the apple tree was wonderful.

Hi Mike,

Your place sounds lovely.  I love all of those trees!!!!!

Eva Cassidy!  Fabulous...  I have downloaded what I could find of hers on You Tube.  She was so very gifted...just lovely.

Yes, the back surgery was a bit different than what I could find here. The place where I went does minimally invasive procedures only.  I could not find anyone locally that did this.  They can do 4 procedures to one disc space, if needed, and that is all they do...spine surgery.  It was a life changing procedure for me, as I had gotten very impaired.  I did not have general anesthesia, they used meds given for the colonoscopy type procedures. That was good, as I generally get nauseated with anesthesia. My Father was an Orthopedic surgeon and he had advised me to avoid surgery if possible.  This was no longer something I could put off.  I had pretty debilitating spinal stenosis caused by a herniated disc and stenosis of the foramina and facet joints. I have another disc that looks bad on MRI, but I don't have symptoms like I did with the other, so that was left alone.  I may have to deal with that someday. If you ever have to consider this, I would highly recommend the clinic I went to.  It was an out-patient procedure.  I hope they build a center in the NW, or that the Orthopedists here begin  routinely do these surgeries.

I hope you are enjoying your NW fall day!  I am sipping on hot cider after my Doodle walk in the park....gorgeous!
