Thanks, Sue. I am familiar with the disease, it's very common in GSDs. In fact, 70% of all cases are German Shepherds, and another 20% are Collies, it's mainly the herding dogs that get it for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure that's not Jack's problem, but I'm going to read more about it. I really appreciate your taking the time to give me this info! Thank you!

Hi Sue, thanks for this idea! Could you possibly find out what enzyme it was?

I am not sure that my vet has much experience with any of this. Not unusual, because most general practice vets don't get any nutritional training, but it's frustrating and scary to be spending all this time and money and still not have an answer.

Thanks for any additional info you might have, and also for the good wishes!

Thank you for the welcome message! We loved the name Lola and thought it suited her perfectly the minute that we saw her :-) Enjoyed looking at the pictures of your Lola, especially the ones in the pool. Our little one loves the water, too.

We did fine Wednesday night. My optometrist office was just built last year and it is like a fort so the Drs family showed up for the basement if necessary! I went home to the deck for quite the light show! I have never seen lightening like that before. It was crackling in the sky in balls right in front of us. I have my sisters dog a viszla that went through the tornado at home alone in Goderich last week! They were evacuated but had little damage to thier home. But are still with out power and gas as their street was demolished in so many ways. Honey was very upset about the storm so when I got home she stayed right by my side and we had to give her some pills to settle her down. She settled after I got into bed with her and the pills kicked in. The other two Neely and the Great dane Zee were fine. Zee is a puppy so she seems like she can't figure out where the sound is from. Neely is like what ever! I hope you faired well with the storm, my son lives on kipps lane at adelaide and has no phone so we were a bit concerned he has no cable or internet yet either but  we figured he would be getting the idea from his balcony.

Hey Sue!  I think I may hava left you a comment some time ago when I first saw you were from London.  Yes we are under the tornado warning too.  Boy it's the last thing that the poor people in Goderich need!  We go through Goderich on HWY 21 every weekend on the way back and forth to our cottage on the Bruce Peninsula.  Luckily we had other plans for last weekend as there is a good chance we would have been travelling through there when it hit.  You and Lola stay safe now.

As much fun as vacations can be, there is no place like home!!!! Being away from my Lola for 2 weeks proved to be quite unbearable...even with the skyping and photo e-mailing my sister did (she was her sitter). New Orleans is an absolutely beautiful city with a great history and even better people. I experienced more in 2 weeks there than I have in a whole year in my own boring city. The people there really open up your eyes to…

Doodle-less for a week!

Posted on July 29, 2011 at 2:16pm 9 Comments

So we're off to cruise the western caribbean tomorrow morning (cross your fingers for these hurricanes/tropical storms to go away! Good luck to those of you in Texas!), and we're leaving Lola with my parents (as we always do when we go away!). I miss her already, and she's sitting right next to me!! I know she'll have a blast with Saba (my parents' hound mix), and my entire family adores her and showers her with love and kisses, but it's still sad to say bye for a week!!!

Have a great…

But Lola....it's too hot for doodles!!!!

Posted on July 21, 2011 at 2:21pm 18 Comments

So we're in earth-shattering heat here in southern Ontario. We're past heat and humidex advisories, and into full-blown weather warnings! As I write this, with the humidity and all, it's about 47C (about 116F). So I've been avoiding taking Lola out, especially since she gets so dramatic with extreme weather conditions. She's been wandering around our (air-conditioned) house all afternoon staring at me and whining. I keep saying "Lola, trust me, it's too hot for doodles. You'll melt!"

So…
