Lyric has started her long process towards becoming a mommy. She won't eat today and her temp has dropped a bit over 1 degree. She is resting comfortably and panting heavily--no signs of big contractions yet. We had her in her whelping box in a room that is warmed by a space heater to 75 degrees, but she hated the heat, so I let her go into a cool corner again for now. She can stay cool until the pups start coming, then it's into the box!

Oh, boy--here we go! Lyric is getting all swollen now and has the look of impending motherhood. Christmas was fine until someone opened a present with some sort of stuffed animal in the box...then she was all over it and it had to be hidden some place. Wow--does time fly! I can't believe the puppies will be here in three weeks! Lyric's appetite has returned and she is eating well now. When she lies down or sits back on the couch, she has quite the little belly on her! It's all very exciting.
We will be picking up the whelping box from our breeder in just a few weeks (she still has puppies that are using it.) We have a house that was built in 1790 and it has a "birthing room"--a small room next to the kitchen (now our living room)…
