I just have to vent a bit, as this is yet another example of irresponsible breeding......My husband and his mother were walking our two pups at our local park yesterday. They saw a friend who was walking her new puppy (a Pit Rottweiler mix that was "accidentally bred" by her daughter). The woman normally walks her other little dog, who is very friendly with our two pups. As they approached, my big guy, Seamus, was curious about this new dog. The new dog sat and seemed to wag his tail, but my husband was leery. As they crossed paths, the new dog not only attempted to bite Seamus in the face, but also went after my husband's hand. He didn't get my pups and didn't break my husband's skin...luckily. The owner, of course, was mortified. I know that things happen and that not all Pits or Pit mixes behave this way, but enough is enough already. This was my first encounter with a situation like this and it just makes me crazy when people wonder why their dogs act this way. The dog's owner kept saying she didn't know what to do with the dog and that he'd never gone after a human before........I guess that means he'd gone after another dog before, but who knows. I really just want to scream at this woman...if you can't properly train a dog (especially one with a potentially "problematic" or even violent personality) then don't own one....and certainly don't breed one!!
