I just have to vent a bit, as this is yet another example of irresponsible breeding......My husband and his mother were walking our two pups at our local park yesterday.  They saw a friend who was walking her new puppy (a Pit Rottweiler mix that was "accidentally bred" by her daughter).  The woman normally walks her other little dog, who is very friendly with our two pups.  As they approached, my big guy, Seamus, was curious about this new dog.  The new dog sat and seemed to wag his tail, but my husband was leery.  As they crossed paths, the new dog not only attempted to bite Seamus in the face, but also went after my husband's hand.  He didn't get my pups and didn't break my husband's skin...luckily.  The owner, of course, was mortified.  I know that things happen and that not all Pits or Pit mixes behave this way, but enough is enough already.  This was my first encounter with a situation like this and it just makes me crazy when people wonder why their dogs act this way.  The dog's owner kept saying she didn't know what to do with the dog and that he'd never gone after a human before........I guess that means he'd gone after another dog before, but who knows.  I really just want to scream at this woman...if you can't properly train a dog (especially one with a potentially "problematic" or even violent personality) then don't own one....and certainly don't breed one!!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes!  I think the scariest part of everything was just thinking of what could have happened....I've heard one too many stories of attacks and horrified (not to mention irresponsible) owners who swear their dog has never acted that way before....it's a bad excuse from someone who should have taken proper precautions and responsibility in the first place.

I say she get that puppy with a good dog trainer that specializes in difficult behavior NOW! We have one in our area and he starts with puppy class, kinder class, then 101. His site is Homeland K-9 (Dogs that behave.) He is a wonderful guy. Just wanted to let you know. Not sure you could suggest this to her, but if she doesn't start now, that dog will end up hurting someone very soon. I have known lots of people with dog aggressive dogs and people agressive dogs that owe everything to this guy.

Glad everyone is okay!  What a scare!  And I agree about breeding....

I'm so glad that Seamus and your husband were not hurt, and I totally agree with you about these owners.  I wonder how many of this litter will end up in shelters....or worse.

After Rooney was attacked by the Corgi Bozo - I don't take any chances with any dog of any breed.  Before I even get close I ask "is your dog friendly" of course everyone says yes but this is my way of letting them know that I am watching very closely.  I would never want to hurt any animal but I WILL do what I have to do to protect my dog.  Glad it wasn't any worse.

I am glad it wasn't worse than it was.  I hope the owner works on training (herself)!  I can only imagine what is going to happen if this isn't handled probably by the owner.

Having gone through this with my grandma's dog three weeks ago I can fully understand your feelings.  I'm glad it did not escalate to something worse.
