We've been having an on going battle with Banjo over our shoes. Each day as we come into the house we leave our shoes by the door and inevitably each day the temptation is
just too great to resist and Banjo will boldly grab a shoe and come
bounding gleefully into the living room in hopes of being able to lie
down and slowly devour the entire shoe. In our attempts to discourage
this behavior, every time he appears with a shoe he gets a stern "NO"
and is put in his crate for several minutes to "think about" his
actions.
Yesterday, once again, temptation got the best of him and he came bounding into the living room with his "catch" and sat there
looking at me for just a split second....and before I could even say
"NO"...he dropped the shoe and walked into his crate!!! I laughed so
hard my sides hurt!
This morning we had the same scenario....only I did say "NO" at which point he dropped the shoe....I pointed to his crate....he walked
in and calmly waited for his release. Funny little puppy!
Update.....Jus got home went right to my closet (which houses approximately 60-70 pairs of shoes) (most of which I cannot wear due to
severe heel problem) found a delicious old Kedd and handed it over to my
totally stunned puppy. He is wrestling the little beast to the ground
as I write this! I know full well this goes against the experts advice....but the look of joy on that little face....well....let's just hope I haven't created a monster! There are plenty more where this one came from :)
Koda loves shoes too! When there are several pairs to choose from, he will always pick my shoes! He is like Banjo, just happily bounding towards us, and showing off to Zooey. We will tell him to "show mommy!" in a happy tone, and he will drop it. Next he knows I will praise lavishly and treat them both (yeah freebie for Zooey).
What a smart puppy! Tori actually sneaks away with shoes like a little kid.. infact, she JUST ran away with my slipper. MOST of the time she just hoards them and cuddles with them under the dining room table (her retreat) but I have to watch, because now and again she will shoe and tear...
Too funny! Shelby loves shoes too.... although she hasn't had one long enough to do much damage. I tell my friends, put your shoes in the closet or in the play pen area (used to be for Shelby - not for things I don't want Shelby to get too).... they don't listen and if it takes longer than 1 minute for her to show them the error of their ways - that is a LONG time :o)
That's hilarious that Banjo put himself in "time-out." He knows it's wrong but has apparently decided that it's totally worth the punishment. Halas likes to take shoes, but it's mostly because he wants to be chased. If we ignore him, he'll come back into the room without the shoe. He doesn't tear them up anymore, although I do have some shoes with furry stuff on the inside, and he will try to pull the furry stuff out if I don't go get the shoe from him. Most of the time, I leave those where he can't reach them, but he still gets one once in awhile.
