A number of years ago I started a tradition of having a Christmas in July holiday dinner at our house. I love turkey dinner. I love the turkey and all of the wonderful side dishes that go with it and can’t figure out why we have it only twice a year. So that said, I purchase the most inexpensive meat there is – turkey – and off I go on a mission to serve up the works with all of the holiday spirit. This year I was painting my mom’s house so we moved the meal over there but really, turkey dinner is turkey dinner rand I don’t care WHERE we eat it.
A very good friend of mine raises turkeys for fun (and eating) so he gave us one for our Christmas in July gathering. When I prepped it for brining I noticed one of the legs had come out of the socket so it was kinda hanging weird. No big deal, I’ll eat it anyway. Once brining was complete I prepped it for baking and shoved her in the oven for the day. Yes, it was a “her” and do you know why it was a her? Because weirdly enough, when I took her out of the oven she looked like she was more ready for an OBGYN exam than for the dining room table. It was a bit awkward looking at her so I had my brother carve her up quickly so my husband didn’t get any ideas. I wish you guys could have seen my 76 year old mother – the preacher’s wife – laughing so hard she was crying. Good Times……

LOL, I can always count on a doodle lover to crack me up!
Now that is a strange looking turkey! LOL I'm sure the feast was delicious--one of my favorites, too.
LOL
I love this idea! Would you believe our town had "Christmas in July" this past weekend! Some streets were closed off in the little downtown area and vendors and local shops, organizations were all out. There were even Christmas decorations all over! Your dinner would have fit right in!
I LOVE turkey dinner and do make it every once in awhile. About a month ago I made corned beef and cabbage, we usually just have it on St. Patrick's Day, but we all love it! It was melt in your mouth good!
LOL What a great idea, Marnie -- the Christmas in July part, I mean!! I love turkey dinner but this lends a whole new perspective!
HA HA HA!!
Merry Christmas Marnie! I love preparing and eating the Big Turkey Dinner too....now you have me thinking!
That has to be one of those "Loose" turkey girls.....she's really quite obscene!
uhm LOL? hahaha!!! I love that you have Christmas in July!!! What a treat!
What a wonderful tradition. I also LOVE turkey and all the trimmings and I don't even get it twice a year since I am not the cook in our family.
So funny :))) I do hope she tasted good? lol
