Just another little update on Darwin. We've been taking him out often with treats and training practice around the apartment and surrounding areas. Hopefully he can start feeling more comfortable, I feel terrible knowing that he's been anxious. It must be very disorienting for him, having us pick up and move, total change of family presence, not to mention that we are still driving back and forth between the two homes once a week (a two hour drive that he doesn't love). So we are going to work on making him more comfortable.
It's become a tradition for our little family that we go to my in-law's home on the 4th, because their town does a big carnival and an awesome fireworks show. Darwin has gone to the carnival three times now and every time he LOVES it. Everyone stops us and asks to pet him, and he loves the attention. He even finds the occasional chip or hot dog piece in the grass. We diligently try to avoid the dropped food but he somehow manages to find it and he loves it.
He layed down in the shade for a while with us and there were kids practically lined up to come play with the "polar bear" as they call him. He did so good with them, as he always does. He also got a little bit of shaved ice which he enjoyed. I think next year we are going to buy him some plain shaved ice and put chicken stock on it for his very own snow cone. :-)
Then after the carnival was over we all got ready for the fireworks. He doesn't mind them at all and had a nice nap during the show. Overall a fun holiday!
Here is Darwin in his patriotic bandanna.
Some of the fireworks...
I hope you guys had a fun holiday!

So glad Darwin had a great holiday! Love your firework pics. I had my tripod set up on the deck of the lakehouse with big hopes of shooting fireworks for the first time....what was I thinking? My tripod and camera sat on the deck alone while I spent the the night in the closet in the basement with Murphy and a bottle of Trazadone..good grief. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you and Darwin:)
Darwin you are so darling.....I know your parents will have you feeling perfectly at home in no time. What a special day you had! Tell your Mom that her firework pics are AWESOME!!!!
If I had been there, I would have been beating those kids back with a stick and yelling, "It is my turn to pet Darwin!!" LOL
Great blog, Camilla! I am glad you had a great day!!
It certainly sounds like your tradition of going to your in-law's town carnival is wonderful for both you and Darwin. It sounds wonderful. I wish I had been there with my guys.
Darwin, you are such a good dog, and an adorable one! That bandanna is definitely your look. ;)
Darwin, you are so cute! Of course there were children lined up to play with you! I'm glad you had such a great 4th of July!
Camilla, the photos are outstanding!
Fabulous pictures Camilla! Hopefully Darwin adapts to his lifestyle change sooner that later.
