Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My friend (I think that is still the proper term) picked up a "free puppy" at WalMart Monday, saying she couldn't resist and was afraid of what might happen to him. Her husband was furious because she is terminally rescuing something. She brought the little guy in and asked me to keep it to "save her marriage". Much to my amazement, he looked like a "solid black Murphy".  Took him to the vet, got his first shots, worming etc. With the web feet, her guess was a labradoodle or a Newfie and 8 wks old. This guy even has the same laid back personality Murphy had as a pup, especially apparent after being around the Weimaraner pup

I don't need or really want another puppy. Black dogs are not my favorite. My back porch and stairs are now in the middle of renovation, meaning all I have is a ladder to the back yard. Not the best plan for a new pup..

My other issue is that I am now a "doodle snob". I know if I get another dog, it will be a doodle. And I don't know what this little guy is. There is one other person definitely interested, but everyone who sees him falls in love (makes me think he is a dood). He looks like a little black bear.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone...just struggling here.

Well..... We were NOT looking for another dog - we had three when Ned and I met Clancy at a shelter fund-raiser.  I tried to find someone to adopt him but it didn't happen fast enough for me so we added Clancy to our family.  He is the best dog ever and I am glad that we have him. At times there were regrets or soul searching about this decision.  On the other hand, my son brought home a darling chihuahua puppy that was dumped at the mall.  She was sooooo cute but we knew that a tiny dog wouldn't fit with our lifestyle and were afraid she would get tromped on by the bigger dogs, so we found another home for her.  It was really, really hard to let her go as we had her for weeks, but it was the right thing to do and I am glad that we found her a chihuahua home.

Linda, you should not feel obligated...as others said, he is a puppy of course he is cute. Your friend has really put you in a bad position, is she willing to take him back and deal with it on her own, you didn't tell her you would for sure did you.

Even if he is a doodle you weren't ready. Hope there is an easy solution for all of you.

He is really cute. But I agree with everyone. If you do not want a puppy, or not ready at this time, you should not feel obligated to keep him. May be you can contact DRC ?

Linda - this is a picture of a Newfie puppy I found.  As others have said, you have to be sure you are ready before you decide to take this guy forever - a puppy is a lot of work and if you aren't ready that work will seem even worse.

All I know is he is so stinking cute. I hope and pray he finds a forever home that will love him forever like he deserves. That certainly does not mean you need to be the one to do it.. Give that baby hugs for me.

What an adorable puppy. But I agree with Adina. Before you become too bonded to him, make sure you really want this puppy or give him to the interested person or someone else. He looks like a true bargain for someone.

Linda, he is adorable, and he does look a lot Doodlish.  I wouldn't want to push you in either direction, so I'll not comment on whether you should keep or relinquish him.  However, just an observation that I'd ask others to speak out about... His precious little eyes are really round, aren't they?  I don't know if that is a breed characteristic, or not.  Anyone know anything re: this?  Good luck, Linda!
