Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have done a really bad thing. I trimmed Neely's Man area. He has not left it alone since. He has it black and blue and soaking wet. We have put a diaper on him and the tip of his doodle do do sticks out enough to get at it. We have tried putting Lanacane anti itch cream on it. Apparently that tastes great! He has a thing for lotions to begin with. He loves to lick it off while your lathering up your feet! So we tried sprinkling it with gold bonds power. That just makes a sticky white paste that trails through the house and dries on the floor like drywall compound. We have been telling him no and wrestling his snout away from it. Now we have him practically needing therapy for the amount of shame he is feeling for doing such a normal acceptable practice of licking yourself. He is starting to descend into a depression. He looked at me with those big brown eyes today while the door was wide open and waiting for him to bound outside in the snow with no exitement at all. He never moved. I left him sitting there while he stared straight ahead into the abiss. I thought for a minute, maybe I have poisoned him with all the concoctions used to keep him out of there. He is fine. Just dispondent.

I just trimmed it with the scissors I didn't shave it all around down there and make fancy designs in his fur! I just took off all the fur hangin off the front of it. After all those conversations on spagmum and pee residue left on that thing all the time I just figured I would clean it up a bit. What in the world would cause him to freak out like this. I am worried he may chew the thing right off. He had normally been such a polite boy and never sat around licking himself in public. Now it is his obsession. It is like I turned him on to a new thing like he found it for the first time!

I wonder how long it takes for penis hair to grow back in? Doodle grooming group here I come!

That is hilarious! What a great laugh! Thanks for sharing. My boyfriend wanted to trim Sebastian but I was cautious and discouraged him. After hearing your story, I am glad we didnt go there!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Thanks for the laugh!! I shave Duke's Man area, belly and the area around his ummm butt very short. It doesn't bother him unless he goes outside and the cold air hits these areas. He runs in circles and acts so confused. An finally sits on the ground and looks around. Stands up, air hits him, runs in circles and sits back down. Usually by the next day he is used to the cold winter breeze hitting these "Oh so delicate areas". Poor baby!

What... he isn't a metrodoodle LOL...

I regularly shave Darwin's "manly" area as well, and he has ever had a problem. Perhaps he is just not used to the feeling, hopefully he will adjust to it. I can't help but smile at the thought of him in a diaper though... ;-)

Poor Neely. You could try an E-collar, but that may only be adding insult to injury in his eyes. Though I couldn't help chuckle as I read you post.

I can't help but laugh while reading this, because Neely is being such a man, denied his favorite toy! I totally understand the looks he gives you and how you feel! I accidentally gave Callie a "waxing" around her tush (due to a dingleberry) and I have NEVER been on the receiving end of such a look in my life!

Maybe an anti itch spray with hydrocortisone (relieves itching and soothes skin irritations) from the pet store might work. I use this on Lucy's feet or have also used on their little pee pee's a time or two if they get to licking and get them all red!

I'd say it's probably going to take a few weeks to come back. Guinness gets groomed every four weeks, and they do trim his "man area" pretty short. By the next grooming, it is partially grown back (about a quarter to half inch). He doesn't mind too much. He's always licked himself there....every time he pees. He doesn't care if he's in public or not! Guinness is sleeping in my lap, but I'm sure he'd want me to send his best and tell Neely to "hang in".

It will grow back fast. I am laughing reading this though...the fact that he is depressed because of his inability to lick himself. It will all be okay!
