Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Most of us on DK consider our dogs as part of our families.  However, there are some people who seem to think of their dogs as items; to be disposed of, if flawed.

Truman is a five year old Yorkie who was dumped into a shelter because this little boy has lost his eyesight.  Our Veterinarian eye doctor has confirmed that Truman's vision problems are due to a hereditary condition causing degeneration of the retina.  There is no cure for this but, it doesn't cause Truman pain and there are no further problems regarding his loss of sight.  He doesn't need medications or any future vet care due to this hereditary condition.

This little guy does a wonderful job navigating without sight.  When he first enters a room, he will circumnavigate the perimeter of the room, sometimes bumping into objects.  However, he seems to store the location of those objects in his internal GPS and then seems quite at home navigating by smell and hearing, seldom bumping into anything...

It is a shame that people throw away dogs like Truman because they are "not perfect".  It is those people's loss because little Truman is a wonderful, loving and playful guy who will make a great pet to a family that doesn't require "perfection" in their pet dogs...

TRUMAN HAS A NEW HOME AND A JOB... Truman has been adopted by a lady who owns a retirement home. He will live in her house with her but will go to work with her. Truman will act as a therapy dog to the residents of the home. This is a position for which his personality makes him eminently suited...

So glad that Truman found your hearts and safe haven.  He is so cute!

Truman is just awesome in his capabilities.  He comes into a new room and circumnavigates the borders of the room, sometimes bumping into something.  However, he puts this information in his internal GPS and doesn't bump into that object again.  He seems to know where he is all the time. However, having other dogs with him on potty breaks helps.

I have ordered him a pair of goggles to protect his vulnerable eyes from foliage and our rose bushes.  I think he will look cool in a pair of white aviator sunglasses goggles.

I had him on my lap today watching TV and he thinks that is wonderful.  The little guy is really affectionate. He's another dog that we would happily keep.

Truly sad. Truman is closer to perfection than the people who dumped him.  Thank you for taking him in and I sure hope he gets a loving forever home.

I agree 100%! I get so tired of everyone wanting a perfect dog. There is no such thing. I believe you stick together no matter what. Thanks for rescuing Truman.

How sad that people do this. How sad that his parents probably were not tested for this condition which, if they tested positive, should have prevented breeding them. But how heartwarming that you have rescued him and I have no doubt you will find him a good home.

What a cutie!  I do have a soft spot for blind dogs.  They are amazing how they compensate.

Truman is adorable and I completely agree with you, some people (the people you describe) should not be allowed to own dogs.

What a sweet looking dog!!  Such a shame that people would throw him away or any dog for that matter!
