Ever Wonder ..... Will My Puppy Ever Get Doodley Looking!

I used to wonder if our Sophie was ever going to get "doodley" looking. We had just sort of resigned ourselves to the fact that she wasn't going to have a really fuzzy face and shaggy body. Have you ever thought that about your own puppy. If so, check out the difference in Sophie below ..... there is hope!

She looks like a different dog! That is crazy. Then again Fenway used to look more doodley and now looks more poodley since "the coat change." Go figure!

Ah ha! We had the same concerns with Toby! This should encourage others that are waiting for their doodle to "doodle-out". This boy doodled out so much he really does best with a shorter, more tailored cut!

Wow! Did the doodle fairy do a doggie switch on you. I can't believe the difference. She was cute and appealing as a pup but as an adult, she is gorgeous!

She is pretty easy (especially compared to Lucy). You can pretty much comb her out after a bath. She matts very little. A little bit around her toes, and her elbows as well as the little fine hairs on her stomach. But, she does shed ..... thus as I say you either have to sweep it up of the floor or get it out with a comb like I do with Lucy!

I have been asked more than once if she was an Afghan Hound and seeing this picture I realize why!

Wow--that is gorgeous--and easy, I assume? (Doesn't look like it mats much)

Viva la difference. Sophie looks a little like an afghan hound, beautiful.

Ahhh, thanks for all the compliments. As for when she started changing, it is hard to remember, but she started getting a strip down her back that was loose curls, (maybe around 5 months) and her tail started to curl and the curl wrapped around her tail until it was heavy enough to weight it down and unwrap ..... she originally had a lot of little white wispy hairs that stuck up ..... those went away and she just started growing. We have had her trimmed about an inch one time, and I've cut the hair on her belly about a half inch once because it was just getting too long and I've trimmed her tail a couple times. I also trim up her face a little to keep it out of her eyes. I'm thinking it might be time for another little trim all over as I want the hair to stay healthy looking as well.

Sophie has a gorgeous coat! So does Lucy, for that matter. That's another thing I love about doodles, as compared to a lot of other breeds: They are adorable as puppies, like most dogs, but watching doodles mature and watching their coats grow out is part of the fun of having this breed. Halas was really fun as a puppy, but I was also excited about seeing what kind of dog he would turn into - personality and looks. I mean, who would have guessed, from the tiny little poof of hair on top of her head as a puppy, that Sophie's coat would grow to be so long and flowing?
