May we all take some time today to say thank you to those who have served, are currently serving, or have family members currently serving. Additionally, may we take a moment to think of all of those (and their families) who have made the ultimate sacrifice!

My father-in-law was also a WWII POW, captured in France. He also wouldn't talk about it. The only thing we know is that only a handful from the POW camp survived, and that he started smoking while there because he was told that it would protect his health. He passed in 1997 from emphysema and lung cancer, so eventually the war did take his life. May God bless all who have and who are fighting for us.

I believe it's true that most of the veteran's of that generation never really talked much of WWII. I lost my father in 2000 at the age of 80. My son interviewed him on tape before he passed and that is very much treasured. I just have so many more questions to ask.

My dad never talked much about the war either, in fact just yest. did I find out that he spent 5 years over seas. I never knew how long he was over there. Also, we are losing that generation rapidly. My dad will be 86 in Jan. and I lost my mother 2 years ago. They are really great people with great values of which you do not see now a days. I am proud of all them. I agree with the suggestion of a moment of silence. :-)

I'm surprised our country doesn't do the same as Canada and have a moment of silence on Verteran's Day. Like you Karen, my father fought in WWII also. That generation was was an amazing bunch, but my father wouldn't talk about it with us. My prayers went out to those fighting over seas and to those who have lost family or friends.

My father fought in WW II and I am so proud of him. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge where he was a POW and almost drowned in the Rhine (?sp) River. Thank you dad for fighting for my freedom. I also thank all who have fought in the wars after that and for those that have given the altimate sacrafice.

We call it Remembrance Day here in Canada and we have 2 minutes of silence on the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month for those who have lost their lives protecting our country and freedoms.
