We took my oldest daughter to camp yesterday (she's 21 and will be a camp counselor all summer). My son went to grandma's house while we were gone. My other daughter left home at 10:30 to go to her lifeguarding job. When she left, she put the boys in their crates. We got home from our drive to camp at about 3:00. So they were crated from 10:30-3:00. I think Fenway was not happy about being left home alone most of the day....he was in all kinds of trouble last night. We had the peeing on the bed thing (that I have posted as a discussion item.) He chewed my daughter's flip flop in half! He tried to chew the remote, my DH's glasses, my nightgown and a laptop cord. It was a night of constant "Fenway, NO!" My DH said he though he was getting back at us for leaving him alone all day. But just as quick as he can do something bad....he can come and give you a snuggle and melt your heart! I love that Monstah!

I do not believe that the "experts" ever had a doodle leaving with them!
They do send us messages! That I strongly believe!
We left the girls for at least half of the day yesterday . Gamine, our Golden is "more mature" so she is loose in the house but Thalie, our doodle is crate.
I was home early in the afternoon and they behave well until their Dad arrive!
Last night they were both crazy, jumping on the furniture, running every were and that AFTER they went for a long walk and run in the park with him!
Sunday are for them and they do not accept that "their Dad" do something else than play with them!
That was a clear message for him... and for me too!

Many of the experts say that a dog's mind does not work that way. I mean that they act up or do something naughty wheb they are left alone too long. Well I beg to differ. As we all know it happens-and yes I truly believe they are sending a msg that they are not happy doggies at that moment. For example-I was home all day with our wheaton-If I had to go out for a long period of time-he would find something of mine to chew-no one elses-just mine. Now this doodle of ours-he won't do anything while we are gone-he is like Fenway-he makes our lives pretty much miserable that night getting into all kinds of trouble. I ususally take him in the car with me when I go out(as long as it isn't hot outside) At least it is some sort of stimulation.

I had a dog that would throw all the pillows from the couch onto the floor if we were gone too long. Sometimes she would throw the bed pillows too. Nothing destructive but the message was there.

I think Fenway was sending you a message too.

Ouch! As a 6-month old, Buckwheat developed a taste for my cookbooks, stored in a bookcase in the kitchen. My friend was dog-sitting and while she was away at school one day, he had a great time. Definitely showed a preference for those which were spiral-bound. Thank God he never chewed shoes or other found objects. Oh, yeah, he nibbled on some wood trim along the kitchen ceramic-tiled floor. White paint corrected the damage. We DO love our Doodles, because we forgive them their "moments", don 't we?!
