So I finally have the guts to come on here and share w/ everyone that I had to find Twinkie (Kava) a new home. At the time the schedules that my husband and I had to work just weren't giving her the time and attention she needed. Twinkie is now w/ her new people Jammie and Emerson in Portland OR. I couldn't have found better parents for her. They did change her name to Kava, and it suits her well. We keep in touch and Jammie forwarded me pictures of Kava. She is in Montana for the summer w/ their in-laws who also have a doodle, and from what I hear they are great friends. I uploaded some recent pictures of her as she has grown in to a beautiful dog. I just miss her dearly, but know she is in a wonderful home w/ two people that are able to give her the attention and time she deserves. Kava has been w/ them now since she was six months. It took me a long time to share w/ everyone, as it was very hard, and sad to have to give her up. She was my first puppy, and unfortunately the time was just not right for me and my family. I still miss her! I hope you all enjoy the pictures of her. I sure did! have a great weekend, and I will occasionally post pictures as I get them.

I'm so pleased to see that Penny's sister Kava (nee Twinkie) is happy in her new home.

It WAS the best decision for Twinkie/Kava!! You did the most selfless, wonderful thing for HER!
I know it was the most difficult decision for you and I hope your heart is healing.
We in rescue wish others take the time to find the right family for the dogs instead of just taking them to a shelter.
KUDOS to you and your husband!

Sometimes we find that we made a mistake and we need to fix it as best we can. You did that and found a great home for your dog rather than just dropping her off at the humane society or abandoning her. I commend you for having the courage to admit your mistake and post your actions. It took a lot of courage to admit your 'failure', follow through with your decision, and then publicly post it.

I also commend you for doing the right thing by her. I can only imagine how hard it was. You could have very easily just dropped her off at a shelter with some excuse, but you didn't. She looks happy in the picture, but all doodles happiest when dirty. As for worrying about what anyone thinks, tell them to kiss your........! ;-) Sorry I had to add that.

It is very brave to post your decision as some people might offend you for getting a dog in the first place if it doesn't work out with your schedules. I personally think you did the right thing and acted in interest of the dog. I can imagine how painful this must be but it is so nice that the new owners are still in touch with you and keep you updated. All the best and I am sure your time will come.

You did the right thing, and I'm sure that the lessons learned from this experience will make you an even better dog owner in the future when the time is right.

That must have been very hard, but good on you for having the courage to find her a new home. Sometimes in spite all the best plans, life has other ideas. Twinkie/Kava is one lucky pup.
