I'm 7 Months old... and had to go to the Vet!

Hi there. Last time I posted, I mentioned that I was feeling well and was throwing up - That was Friday, I was really tired that day too. I didn't eat or drink much on Friday. Saturday I felt a little better, drank more water than I did the day before... but still wouldn't eat. Mom even made me some chicken (which I love), but I just backed away... that was my way of telling her - I better not! This brings us to today. When I woke up - I seemed to have more energy than the last two days... I even engaged my human mom in a play bow and we played for a little bit. Then mom had a friend over... and her little girl (she is 5). We played for a while and then I rested and my little human friend was nice and pet me a lot!

Mom tried to give me some chicken again and I tried a few bites... after all, I was hungry - I hadn't eaten since Thursday. I ate 5 or 6 small pieces, drank some water... and then 20 minutes later - vomit! At this point mom told me I had to go to the doctor today. I threw up one more time before we went to the doctor and made a big mess on the carpet. I felt so bad, but mom said it was ok and cleaned it up.

We went to doctor and had to wait for a while since we didn't have an appointment. In the meantime, I enjoyed seeing some other dogs until we were put in our room to wait. There were lots of smells to keep me busy until the vet tech came in. She took my temperature... and I was normal! She asked my mom a LOT of questions and then left the room. About 10 minutes later the doctor (not MY doctor, but another doctor at my clinic) came in and asked my mom more questions. He said he remembered me from the last time I was there. I was a good dog and greeted him when he came in. He examined me and mentioned I am a small dog under all this fur :o). He told mom he wanted to take x-rays just to be sure I wasn't blocked. I wrestled with the doctor at the x-ray table... I was kind of scared, but then relaxed. Thank goodness I didn't have a blockage - that would have been bad. He said my tummy was empty - well duh... I haven't eaten since Thurday and have been throwing up! He told mom I was going to have a shot to make me stop vomiting, but it wasn't a "fun" shot - like there are any fun shots. But this one really burned... but I was a good girl and stayed still! Mom has medicine to give me too -The doctor said I have gastrointeritis... so I have some antacid and anti-inflammatories for the next couple of days.

The doctor told mom to wait 2 hours and then try to serve me a bland diet (white rice and boiled chicken). I was skeptical, but I was hungry and chowed down! It's now 4 hours later and my tummy feels good... I even took my medicine like a good girl. I got very playful after eating... and mom had another friend over - so we got to play. I'm pretty pooped now, so I am going to take a nap. I wasn't excited about going to the doctor, but I am glad mom took me... because I already feel better!

p.s. I met a small dog (smaller than me - he was about 20 pounds)... his dad and my mom started talking - I heard his dad say he swallowed a peach pit - silly dog!!!

Good night everyone!

Oh Shelby,
My mom took Clancy AND me to the vet today. We both have allergies and Clancy has his hair follicles on his tummy infected. We got shots and Clancy got antibiotics. I was very, very good and make the vet tech feel sorry for my by burying my head in her arms and acting sweet. Clancy was so scared that he would NOT cooperate and they put a muzzle on him. It calmed him right down but he still didn't want to show them his pretty pink tummy. We are both tired from the shot.
Signed,
Ned

Shelby, I really feel your pain. I have the same thing. I went to the Vet last Friday....had my temperature taken (I hate that so much)! I also got that "bad shot" I cried and then I limped for a while so my Mom would feel really bad. She calls me the Drama King. I felt much better over the weekend, and Mom gave me chicken and rice, too. It was yummy (my brother gets to eat that good stuff all the time). Last night Mom thought I was all better, so she gave me dog food. I showed her. I threw up in the bathroom, and then I broke through my gate and ran downstairs and did a big "mess" on her favorite peach carpet. Now she's got me back on the chicken and rice. I just knew that would work. I'm glad you're feeling better!

Shelby, oh no, not the bad shot! I'm glad you are feeling better though. I get chicken and rice whenever I'm sick. I wish I was sick more, because it's tasty! - Darwin

Dear Shelby,
I am sorry you have been sick to your tummy. I am glad you are better. My mom is going to take me to the vet tomorrow and she wants me to get a shot too because I just keep scratching my face. I scratched two sores - one on my chin and one under my ear. I don't think my shot will hurt and I will be getting one-on-one time with Mom, so I think I will like it.

Shelby - I have had the same problem! That shot does sting, but I liked it better than getting my temperature taken. Now THAT was invasive! Your mom is doing everything right. You just hang in there, take your medicine like a good girl, and enjoy that chicken while it lasts! So glad you're feeling better! Doodle Hugs - Callie

My mom and I are super happy you are feeling better. I like going to the doctor. He gives me treats and says he wishes all his patients were as good as me. I bet you were just as good. Take care. Your friend Quincy.

We are thrilled to hear that you are feeling so much better. We really started to get worried when Mom read that you wouldn't eat chicken! We KNEW you really didn't feel good.
We know how shots can hurt but you were so brave - so proud of you!! We hate them too but we know Mom would never let anyone hurt us intentionally. She says 'it's going to make you feel better' - we don't understand how something that stings can make you feel better but as always, she is right. Now that gets annoying but we can talk about that in another blog! WOL!!!!
It's really great having to have that chicken and rice dinners for a few days - it just kinda stinks that there won't be any cookies and treats but I guess in the end it is best for your tummy! We hope you feel better everyday!!
Love,
Samantha & Charli

I (Charli) didn't feel so good last night either. We spent the morning at the dog beach with a bunch of other really cool Doodle friends. I think I must have drank 1/2 the ocean. For some silly reason I refused to drink fresh, cool water on the beach and when we got back to the car that Mom had. I don't know why I was such stubborn Doodle but when I got home I drank an entire bowl of water by myself until Mom took it away. I guess I over did it because I started spitting up water several times while our family had a Bar B Q! Everyone was so worried about me. Mom even got up several times during the night to check on me. But I am happy to report that I am feeling perfectly Dooley this morning. I guess I learned my lesson - always listen to Mom!
