You bet it is to me! Well let me preface this by saying last night my husband and I went out to dinner to celebrate our 27th anniversary. We left two "responsible" boys, ages 17 and almost 13 home with our very over protective, 'no more puppy'... "Tori-girl" (my in-laws have an apartment attached to our home - and they were home too -just in case). After a very nice dinner, we came home and the boys proceeded to tell us that Tori got in the garbage - (which my son was told to take out before we left), and got a hold of a corn cob! "We tried to get it away but she was seriously growling at us" was one of the many answers to the 'questions' I fired at them.

Now, because I am a devoted reader on this wonderful site, I remember reading about 'someone' who's dog ate a corn cob and had to have it surgically removed. Of course, it's now after 9:00pm - you see where this is going....Called the ER vet and they said the ever so familiar words to us... "You better bring her in". So off we go, romantic mood shot to hell by now. This being one of those times that I "raised" my voice at the boys...and in my poor puppy-girl runs into her crate, coaxed her out - And then off we went!

They say they'll do an x-ray to be sure it hasn't "moved into her intestines yet" - (GREAT!)....not in the intestines 'as far as we could see' . they induced vomiting and noticed that she chewed most of it up except one piece about as round as a quarter - which he brought out to show me. We left, brought her home, and I'm still hoping all is well!

We got off cheap - I'm thinking! Only $248.00 for this visit. So for my anniversary I got a beautiful dinner, and a piece of a (how do I say this politely???) "up-chucked" corn cob. I'm thinkin' I may get it bronzed and strung on a necklace with that screw she mysteriously swallowed back in November!

Glad she's all okay and is a good chewer!
Once when I was serving corn on the cob...I turned my back to the plate on the table for 2 min (max). When I returned I noticed ONE cob was missing. But NO evidence until I looked in Thule's crate...and found some teeny tiny corn remnants. Thankfully she's a mighty chewer and was fine. But it had me worried for a bit!

Chewie was the corn cob boy a couple months ago...luckily didn't have surgery. He also went to the vet and the induced vomiting brought it up. I think you got off cheap with $248, especially at the emer. vet. Our little episode topped out at $400. Did they take a second xray to make sure it all came up? I do agree with you though...definitely worth the peace of mind. Glad everything came out ok...LOL.

Oooo.... Karen - No - mine's not THAT good! Do you know the name of that garbage can?!

Thanks everyone! It IS an anniversary I will never forget! Don't know how long it will be until I can enjoy a nice Corn on the Cob?! LOL

Carmilla ` It DEFINITELY was worth it to ME... I think even my DH thought so - this time

Who says romance is dead? What more could you ask for on your anniversary? Congratulations on your 27 years. Glad Tori is ok and that in itself is priceless.

Shelly - Happy Anniversary to you and your DH! I will bet you never feel the same way about corn on the cob ever again!

Unless Tori weighs more than I do, she could not open the can I have...I have to step down with my full weight to open it. The pedal is very sturdy and hard to push down, and the lid is heavy and has a rubber gasket around it that prevents the lid from popping up easily. I will say that this kind of can has a three figure price tag, but it is the last one you'll ever buy, and definitely worth it!

Happy anniversary to you both! I think that it probably is worth the peace of mind... although that certainly wouldn't stop me from complaining about it... LOL. I agree with Karen, the heavy lid metal step cans seem like a good idea.
