Apparently I left a gate open yesterday when I was mowing the lawn. Trav has been outside several times since then, but maybe didn't notice that one gate was open, and I didn't either.
This afternoon we played ball in the yard for a while, and I'd been back inside for some time when I heard him 'talking.' He was using a little in-the-throat sound that usually means 'I want to go outside,' which was strange since the door was already open.
When I looked out, he was patiently sitting outside of the other gate into the yard! He must have gone around the house and then wanted to come back inside. Yikes! I'm so glad he is such a homebody--he really just wants to hang out with his mom and play ball, but if a squirrel or cat had been around, or another loose dog, I don't know if things would have turned out so well.

Our yardman did this once. I was on the back patio reading a book and drinking my coffee when I heard Stanlee barking.....from the front yard! I ran out front in my pink cabbage rose pajamas only to find my dog barking at a neighbor walking by and her giggling because my very large dog just didn't look that frightening. "He's a cutie" didn't help install the fierce guard dog persona we were looking for. It was scary thinking that anything could have happened. Glad Trav is as much a homebody as Stan.
p.s. The yardman never made that mistake again.
Scary, thank goodness he stayed nearby!
What a scare. Good boy Trav!
Thank goodness Traveler is not a wanderer! Glad he is safe
Good boy, Traveler. So glad you did not live up to your name!
I'm glad Traveler stayed home!
The few times Luna has "escaped" (due to an open front door or open gate) she has gone straight for her BFF's house two doors down (doesn't need to cross the street, thankfully). She just hangs out by their back gate hoping her friend is there.
Ha! Traveler is only a traveler when he's with me. lol So far--fingers crossed, and checking the gates again....
F, I remember Luca's trick with the ball and the gate. So funny!
Laurie, that Fudge is such a bold girl! You just have to laugh at Vern. Help! I can't get in!
Jennifer, Jack knew he belonged inside HIS house! lol
I am so glad that Traveler stayed close to home! Whew!
Such a scary thing! I'm so glad Traveler is safe at home.
Pat, I am so glad Traveler stuck around by the gate. Vern does the same thing. He pushes his way out of the deer fencing and then stands at the gate to get back in. Fudge, on the other hand, would take off like a bat out of hell. I am so anal now about checking gates, because I left our gate open once and Fudge ran away. I was in a panic and luckily, our neighbor called for her and she came, but she was two yards over. So scary. Traveler is a very good dog :)
