For my birthday this year, I was finally able to get a DSLR camera, which I have been wanting for such a long time! I had a smallish budget but circumstances being as they were, it was basically buy one now or buy one 4 years from now. If any of you knew me in non-cyber world you would know that waiting is almost impossible for me. :-)
I chose the Canon t1i, and I think it is a really great camera, one that I can do SO much more with than my point and shoot. I have studied settings, techniques etc. for quite a while now but actually taking the photos is a different thing entirely. I have a lot to learn! I find myself trying to fiddle with settings and focus only to find that my subject (the unwilling Darwin) has long since pranced out of the shot.
We decided that for my birthday, we would head to the Great Salt Lake to do a photo shoot and try out sunset lighting. It was a lot of fun, and we are definitely going to return once I've mastered the camera a little better. :-) It's only a few minutes from where I live now (and grew up) and I am surprised I haven't been there for so long it's beautiful and serene and we were completely alone there. There was undisturbed sand surrounding us, with the lake ahead and the mountains on each side.
I know not every photo is perfect, but to me it's hard to narrow them down! With my point and shoot I had to discard most, now I feel like I love so many of the photos, I'm not being discerning enough. :-)
This post will be photo heavy, of course. :-)
and one of my favorites from the night. I just think it shows Darwin's personality well. :-)
