Sunday morning my mom woke me up with "Happy Birthday, Haley!" instead of the usual "Good Morning, Haley!". I thought WTD is going on.
We went downstairs and my dad said "Happy Birthday, Haley!". Then Mom opened up the container of stuff she was making Friday and gave me a delicious treat!!!, and then another one! All this before my breakfast. Then I got my breakfast and Dad took me out to do my business after which he left to go get the newspapers for their Sunday morning. When he got back Mom took a package off the table and showed it to me. Oh boy I thought, is this for me? It was a new unstuffed raccoon!!! Mom and Dad sat down with their coffee and newspapers and I proceeded to remove the head squeaker from the raccoon. It was out in 30 minutes!!! (I have had lots of practice taking squeakers out of toys. I started doing it when I was 8 weeks old!)
Anyway they finished the newspapers and coffee. Then Mom put my seatbelt harness on me. And, then......she put my Gentle Leader on me. We all got in the car and rode and rode and rode. I did my best to get the cars that were coming at us on the highway. Mom kept saying "Nooooo" every time a car came toward us and if I stayed still she would give me a treat. So mostly I stayed still.
We finally got to this place called a "Conservation Area" and got out of the car and started walking. It was lots of fun. There was all this stuff to sniff, the place must have been full of all kinds of critters. There were people walking, not too many just every once and awhile. And, there were other dogs of all descriptions. I even met a 10 week old puppy who had gotten tired and his mom was carrying him. A lot of the humans asked Mom about me and said how pretty I am. We walked Mom said about 3 hours and 5 miles (Mom took lots of pictures). It was sooooo fun. Finally we got in the car and came home. I was a tired dood. What a day!
