One Skunk, One Cat, Two Dogs and No Sleep.

It was 12:05 AM according to the glowing digital display on my clock. Waking by the sound of oneself gagging is no picnic. The burning nose hair falls pretty low on the list of favorite sensations as well, but this is the reality when the neighbor’s cat accidentally runs head-on with a wandering skunk.

The cat scared the skunk.

The skunk, skunked the cat.

The cat jumped the fence.

The dogs saw the cat.

The cat brought the stench.

The stench reached the dogs.

The dogs went berserk.

The cat freaked and froze.

The dogs lost their minds.

The hours crept and crept.

My eyes burned and wept.

Soon the sun came up.

Sleep finally fell on pups.

BUZZ went the alarm.

Now at the end of the day, following a sleepless night, all I can say is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

my guy is a city guy, i've moved him into the country. He wonders why I am not afraid at night. I told him the ONLY thing I am afraid of at night is SKUNKS. geez, I had a dog that never learned his lesson, always thought he was chasing a cat.

Hilarious! I recall a Thanksgiving many many years ago, one of my first to host guests. I was up until 1:00 am cooking, cleaning. I put the dog out for one last trip before collapsing. He came running in the door to the downstairs. OMG! what the hell was that smell? By the time I realized bad things had happened my sinuses were in turmoil. The darn dog always chased cats....well it wasn't a cat at 1:00 AM!! Oh what an ordeal. I had scrubbed and cleaned every single inch of my house, now we had to bathe the dog. We had shampoo and lots of tomato sauce which he promptly shook off in the bathroom. oh my, now every single inch of the bathroom walls, floors and ceiling needed to be cleaned too. :( I spent the next several hours scrubbing the dog, re cleaning the house. The next day when my dad came in the door he said "oh my what a great smell" I thought he could smell the skunk as my sinuses were trashed and I still couldn't smell. I fell into tears. He thought I had lost my mind cause he could smell the turkey in the oven and thought it smelled wonderful! LOL

I worked with a woman who lived near a major skunk area. Her dogs got sprayed regularly.  She used women's feminine hygiene wash and swore that it worked perfectly on her poodles.

Great post, lol, but I do feel your pain, it happened to us with a neighbors dog, many years ago, in our yard, which got to our dog, ugh, I thought we would have that smell forever...You really could write childrens books, sleeping or awake, great, I loved it, lol, the poem, not the skunk part...

Oh, and sorry, no the Natures Miracle Skunk formula does NOT remove the smell from the air! LOL! So it would have been of NO help last night!! I was just thinking JUST in case the NEXT time it isn't the CAT! If you know what I mean! :(

Donna, You wrote a very creative blog. I am sorry you had to experience this stinky smell and that your night was shot to hell :)

Thanks for the replies.  I'm laughing my booty off this morning because I wrote that in a total sleepless fog...I do strange things when I'm sleep deprived...lol. And thanks for the de-stink tip. It's not too bad today but I didn't think I'd ever get that smell out of my nose.
