Only cost $5 Extra to get what I did NOT want!

Rosco went to the groomer once when he was about 5 months old. It was mostly just to get cleaned up...not a real 'hair cut' session. It went well, but I decided I'd do it myself. And I did for about 3.5 years. Before baby arrived I took him to PetCo for the first time to get 'cleaned up' again. Happy with the results and lacking 3-4 hours to spend grooming, I took him there again this Sunday. This time Clark, who likes Rosco long and shaggy, agreed it would be okay if he were trimmed down a little.

I figured we had a high chance of a successful grooming because Rosco prefers shedding to matting.
When we got there it was the same girl who worked on him the last time and she did fine, but just to make sure of it, I had Rosco hop up with his front paws on the counter so the groomer and I could look closely at his coat. I confirmed with her that indeed he was about 3 inches. I also expressly stated that in addition to a sanitary trim, closer butt trim than last time, nail clipping, ear flap hair trimming...I ALSO wanted him to be taken down to 1.5 inches all over except his beard and face. Given all the horror stories of doodles I've heard in the last 4 years or so I wasn't taking a chance at miscommunication.

This is Rosco before:

This is the dog I found when I returned:

BobbleHead Rosco

I was pretty sure I made myself quite clear, but English is, indeed, my second language so who knows what the groomer actually heard. Notice how "face and beard" was translated to "entire head." And best of all...it only cost $5 more to go from 'just cleaned up' to this.

Rosco hasn't noticed he looks like an oddly shaped Lion.

On another note...Rosco has been exceedingly respectful of ALL of Natalie's toys. Before she arrived, there was some serious coveting going on regarding the stuffed animals that filled her room. Now, he hasn't even been tempted. Or doesn't act like it.

And today, before work, he tried cuddling with her. Got right in the line of fire of those uncontrollable kicking legs...and barely seemed to notice when she started pounding him in the head. Ahhhh a head massage.

Adina,

Do you have any thinning shears? It would not take long to blend the fur around his head to neck. Looks like he needs a little of his top knot taken down with thinners or shears too. If not, in a few weeks he will be evened out.
I don't think he looks too bad - it's mainly his sad face that makes the photo funny.

This made me laugh out loud. This is why I'm a bit nervous when I take Quincy to the groomer. The same girl has scissor cut him both times and each time he looks totally different. I always emphasize that I want him to look the same only shorter. Last time he was a little shorter than I wanted but it worked out because I didn't have to brush him for weeks. Rosco is still awfully cute but now a little funny as well.

Oh no! Well, he still looks adorable and it WILL grow back. Why do groomers always do this to us?

I think Rosco is adorable no matter what kind of haircut he has! And clearly he is a wonderful sweet boy and a joy to have around.
But I am a firm believer that for the best results, you need to find someone who does hand scissoring. And you aren't going to find that at the big chains.
As all of our mothers told us at some point, "It will grow back."

Oh my... this is too funny. Rosco looks hilarious lol. I only wonder what is going on in a groomer's head when looking at their work themselves. Don't they wonder that something looks let's say wrong or strange?
I think there is a big market for specializing in grooming Doodles. Give Mr. Lionhead a cuddle and tell him that we are not mean when we are giggling a bit when looking at his picture.

Hmm, now if Rosco's picture came up when we were doing our DRC voting, would we say lion or dog? LOL I still think he's a very handsome Dood, and his "body" will catch up to his head in no time. We've all been there. Now I always bring a picture. That seems to work better than my verbal instructions.

I think he still looks handsome! Bobble head and all! LOL I'll bet you can't stop petting him though! He looks soooooooooooooo soft!

Clark was not pleased but I think he mostly laughed when he saw him.

The day started out not so good but reading this gave me a giggle. Love the BobbleHead and head massage.
You have a fun sense of humor! Rosco is still georgeous! My two will be trimmed down late spring. I'm nervous about it!!!!! Especially Sheba as she will lose a lot of her coloring. Someday I think she'll be all silver!!! What did Clark say about Roscoe's new haircut???

I have a similar picture of Jasper , we didn't care for it either . Being a hairstylist it makes me crazy when people don't listen !
