Peri's Intuition in the Face of Danger/Sickness

Last night we had scare.  Let me preface this by saying my DH is OK!

Around 9:30 pm, DH lost his sight in the periphery of his eyes, his remaining vision became blurred and he was disoriented and very "off".  I had never seen him this way (he does not have migraines) and started to WebMD the symptoms.  Peri immediately came up to him and started whining, put her head on his lap and tried to calm him down. It was so odd.  She knew something was up. Taquito ran to his crate, which he always does when he is worried about something.

Basically, I decided to take him to the ER based on Peri's odd reaction to him.  She was passed out on the other side of the house and the second he was concerned, she was there!  Putting her paw on him and looking at me and whining.

Long story short, I had a looooong night in the ER.  Of course they tested for stroke (in a 30 yr old?  was my question), clotting, etc...all came back A-OK.  So, after lots of morphine, bloodwork, liquids, etc...we came home at 5am.  And nothing was ever officially diagnosed, but they think it was a migraine (headache didn't come on until after midnight).

Thank goodness for my mother, who picked the dogs up at 12 am and let them stay with her. They would have been morose this morning and all out of sorts.  This is why I live 2 miles from them! :)

I picked them up at 11am today and they ran back, well SPRINTED, to the bedroom, where Conor was sleeping. Peri literally scaled the bed post and sat on his head and started licking him.  I. LOVE. MY. DOODLE.

Isn't it amazing how intuitive they are?

I'm glad your DH is okay and everyone is home together again. I hope this was just a one-time occurence.

Good girl, Peri!

Both my mother and my daughter and a friend have had this type of migraine.  My mom only had this blindness twice.  My daughter more often though. I get plain old regular migraines.

Allyson, I am glad that your husband is okay, and I hope that this is an isolated event for him. I have frequent migraines (take meds to prevent them and meds to treat them) and the dogs know when I am sick. They are so well behaved and caring. They stay in bed with me, and are just cuddle muffins. When I am better they are back to their crazy personalities. Interestingly my mom has visual migraines - often times with little or no pain.

I just hate those long stays at the ER - I've had more than my share (mostly for my mom but a couple of times for my daughter).  When I was in high school I used to get full-blown migraines, but fortunately they have pretty much gone away.  Like Jane, I do get occasional headache-free migraines - with all the visual impact, but it doesn't evolve into the headache portion of the attack.  As soon as the flickers begin, I pop a couple of Tylenol or Advil and lie down in as dark a room as I can find (though I think I will now try downing a bunch of coffee, too).  Hope the event was a one-time deal for your husband and I'm glad he's okay now...

Glad to hear your DH is going to be fine, what a scary ordeal. Dogs never cease to amaze me with their intuition.
