Lachlan has the most amazingly plush hair on his legs and face, which is lovely to look at but a bit of a pain to keep up with - especially that face! I'm not as good as I should be at keeping his beard washed and he hates having it brushed out. He's also one of those pups with a constantly wet beard, which I can't imagine is all that great for the skin. His coat is so soft and thick it just wicks up any moisture within a 10-block radius.
I finally decided to trim his beard down short, so I bought a #4 blade and started hacking. It didn't take long to realize that between almost Cocker Spaniel-thick hair and a severe case of cowlick-itis I was never gonna get his face smooth and still have any hair left. Mmkay, fine! #10 blade it is. OMD! He actually has a really nice Poodle face under all that fuzz! Who'd have guessed?!
I may regret shaving his face like this, but heck ... it'll grow back, and in the meantime I'm gonna enjoy not having to wash out water bowls three times a day!

@Lisa, he does have a great big doodle nose, doesn't he?! I'll admit I kiss it regularly; it's irresistible!
The look's definitely growing on me, and I think he's liking it too! He has such an expressive face, and I never really realized it with all that hair in the way. He loves having his face stroked, which is something I didn't do enough of before because it was always wet and mucky.
That look on his face in the photo is "Geez, mom, are you done yet? Seriously? I wanna go playyyyy!" after nearly two hours in the tub and on the table having his coat brushed out, face and belly shaved, and toenails filed. He was flat fed up with being primped.
I think he's gorgeous and yes his face is somewhat like a poodle -EXCEPT FOR THE HUGE BIG DOODLE NOSE! Kiss if for me please.
