Well it's been forever since I've been on DK...as life has been quite hectic...just needed to get this out and get some DK support.

Last night, my husband was driving my pup (15 months) to PetSmart as Bentley loves to roam the aisles at PetSmart. A car in front of him rearended the car in front of it...and he slammed on the brakes to prevent getting our brand new SUV in an accident as well....well Bentley fell off his seat... (We don't have a riding holster...but are now getting one..ugh)...and seemed fine..so Pat went on his way. When he got Bentley otu of the car, Bentley was dragging one of his back legs behind him..so Pat went home...(Bentley is a big baby and usually dramatizes things a bit..)..however, he was still doing it. Called vet, hours closed...called emergency vet...told him to come on in. Xrays, diluadid, and an exam later they determined he had a fracture of his femoral head..which sits in the hip joint. but they dont have surgeons employed there to determine next actions...sent us home on pain killers and antiinflammatories..with being told we could wait it out and see if meds and decreased activity works, possibly have the joint removed, possibly have pins placed, or a total hip replacement. price estimate 3500..in addition to $350 emergency vet bill.

Anyways, I was at work this whole time, once I got my messages on my phone..I'm hysterical...I get home to Bentley who is completely gorked out from all the dilaudid they gave him for pain...Bentley and I slept (well tried to) on our sectional couch last night..but most of the night he just whimpered.

Got in to a surgeon this morning, and they gave us a few options..we choce to have the joint repaired with pins..and hopefully it all works out. hes in surgery now..with an amazing well known surgeon..so im hoping it all comes out ok.

Bentley is recovering well...he has 26 staples which are driving him nuts...he gets those out 2 in weeks..hates not being able to run wild and free outside by himself anymore...but otherwise is back to his normal happy go lucky self!

Hoping to hear a pawsitive update this morning. Hugs to all of you. Hoping that your story helps other Doodle parents to remember to buckle up their babies. I know it is going to make me go shorten up the seatbelt ties that I use. Right now they are a little too long and I think the same thing could possibly happen if I slammed on the breaks.

Clifford and I hope Bentley is doing better after his surgery. Now, even more than before, I am glad I ordered a harness for Clifford and I hope it arrives soon. Bentley deserves lots of hugs and pampering during his recovery and we are all sending them his way. On a positive note - Clifford says while he hates to hear about the accident, maybe you'll have a cool scar that makes all the ladies swoon.
