Now, I've read all the articles that say poodles are one of the smartest dog breeds. Ostensibly, their intelligence is on par with a 3 year old's (I remain a little skeptical on that...I don't know any three year old humans who try to eat their own barf). Last night though, Callie displayed an intelligence that I found a little disconcerting. I was in the guest room/office working (love working for 4 hours after work...it's just been a super week like that) and Callie was laying on the bed, chewing on a toy. Or at least I thought it was a toy. It turned out to be a series of used q-tips, which I'm guessing she removed from my bathroom trash on her "Naughty Doodle Day". She had STASHED q-tips that she'd dug out of the trash under my bed and the guest bed. They weren't in neat piles or anything, but still - that's weird. Here's what I found alarming...
- she had to purposely separate the q-tips out from the rest of the efflivia in the trash
- she had to carry them and hide them in two separate spots
- she had to remember where those spots were
- she noticed when I was distracted and brought them out then
I know I tend to humanize Callie, but this just doesn't seem normal to me. If she's really this smart, I think she could be putting her skills to better use, like solving the economic crisis or doing my laundry.
