Ever since my sweet Remington Bear entered our household he has loved sleeping by the toilet. I don't know if he feels safe and confined there or maybe its cold in that area... I dunno... but when I go to bed at night, he makes his way to his favorite spot!

Well... I get a call yesterday afternoon from Dan telling me that the floor in our bathroom is soaked with water and we have a leak in the toilet. The water valve was shooting water every where. Dan then explains to me that the valve looks like it has been damaged, maybe from when it was installed... I on the other hand knew better so I asked... "are you sure Remington hasn't been chewing on it?" With a closer look Dan discovers that yes... those are teeth marks in the valve!

Now, our precious pooch has never shown any interest in this before and he's almost a year old. I never would have imagined him doing something of this nature... but during the day Dan sleeps because he works nights... and Remington usually just sleeps the day away with his Dad. However, yesterday... I believe he woke up... got bored... and found his perfect chew toy!

Anyways, we shut the water off to the house and had to call a plumber who came out to fix the problem. It ended up costing us about 300 dollars! And the plumber thought he was going to have to break down some of the wall, but luckily didn't have to, but if he would have it would have cost 600 dollars! GOOD LORD!

Now, most people who know me would have thought I would be furious that this happened... which I was... but within minutes of looking at my dog staring up at me with that precious face of his... all the anger melted away! :)

Anyways, I just had to share this store with you! Even though are dogs aren't perfect... they will always be perfect in our eyes :) It's funny how I won't forgive Dan for little things he does for days... but just one look from my Remington Bear makes me forgive him in seconds :)

Thanks for the heads-up Kendra. My daughters' Marley sleeps right there too. Never seems to bother the valve, but who knows now? Gonna have to check them all. Another doodle-drama deverted I hope!!!!

This is Finn as a younger puppy on the bathroom floor. Thank God, he never chewed anything in there.

This is hilarious...I know what you mean how it is hard to get mad at them. Peri tore off the edges of a rug...I had to just laugh and justified the damage saying "it looks vintage now" to my husband. hehehe.

too funny. Remington could never argue this in court - pictures really do say a thousand words and I see guilt all over this one.

I SO understand how you feel! I would trade the "surprise" expenses but wouldn't trade anything for my sweet doodle!

Life is never boring with a doodle! Expensive, but never boring! You might want to try spraying it with bitter apple; that's what we do whenever Gus or Molly discover something fun to chew (it doesn't work for our rugs, though). Except for the rugs, it has worked every time.

I'm thinking that you could get one of those cabinets that fits over top of the water tank on the toilet. It normally has a cabinet or shelves on top to keep things in. Usually goes all the way to the floor on each side. I've see them made out of wood or some are iron. I've seen them at places like Lowes or JC Penney catalog. If you had one of those, Remington would still be able to sleep up against the cool toilet and on the cool tile, but wouldn't be able to get to the knob and chew on it. And you would have a little extra storage .... I mean who doesn't need a little extra storage! My guess is he likes it cause it is cool

Darn our cheaply built house :)

I don't know what would be protective. Perhaps something metallic since some of your piping is plastic.

What is the fascination with toilets? Guinness doesn't sleep next to it, but he loves licking the outside...disgusting. I'm sure it's the cold moisture, but it always spoils my enjoyment of his Doodle Kisses when I think of where that tongue has just been. Poor Remington,,,I'm sure he's going through toilet withdrawal.
