There must be something wrong with Rua. Starting her second night home, she sleeps through the night (the first night I got her up at 2AM because I had to go potty). I, on the other hand, find myself laying there awake waiting for her to cry. She is sleeping like a log and I am a walking zombie during the day...how fair is that?

So...we were doing pretty good on accidents...until this AM. My DH heard Rua start to whimper at 5:40 this morning (given she went to bed before 9, that wasn't too bad). He takes her out (I had done morning duty the first 3 mornings we had her)...she goes potty and poo. Brings her back in to me in bed...Rua is squirmy..I want 10 more minutes of sleep...all of a sudden I hear my DH say "Oh Oh". Apparently Rua pooed in the living room...diarrhea poo. So, I get up, take her and bring her out while he cleans up. He didn't read the memo about looking at their poo, otherwise he would have noticed it was REALLY loose. To make a long story short...she wasn't done yet. The good news is a 4lb puppy doesn't produce a lot of poo to begin with.

Last night's dinner was the first night I started changing her over from the breeder's food, Native, to Orijen. I am following the 7-10 day schedule, and we were on the 75% old / 25% new. Or, it could have been the little puppy treats I was using to start Clicker training.

I have to share with you Rua's final house poo. My DH is not exactly happy knowing that I was going to make him into Blog fodder, but it is too priceless to resist. He has had puppies before...not me. Apparently he also didn't get the memo that if a puppy is having an accident and you pick them up pushing their tail between their legs it stops what ever is coming out. So, he picks her up, placing his hand over her behind...."he" is now standing there whimpering because puppy diarrhea is dripping through his fingers. I tried not to laugh, but I couldn't help it. He was totally grossed out and wanted nothing more than for me to take over. I wish I would have had that on video.

I opened the can of pumpkin and she wolfed down some. DH came home at 11 and took her out...he text me to let me know we had "solid waste". By late afternoon, it had an orange tinge to it. All is well now.

Took Rua to the Vet...all is well. I go back next week for her next set of shots. At 9 weeks she now weighs 4.2 lbs!

Well...Rua is settled in for the night in her crate...she puts up a bit of a fuss, but then it is lights out for her...so, I must follow suit. 'Night all!!

4.2 pounds!!! I think my new puppy was born that big. (Kidding) She is only 10 weeks old and was officially too big to fly under a passenger seat last week, 15 pds already, and that was last week. She flys in on friday afternoon so I will have some "Bella Puppy" stories to share as well. You guys are doing great. And yes, keep that camera handy for those Kodak moments.

Glad Rua is ok but the mental picture of your DH with a handful of dog poop is pretty funny.

Hope that things have calmed down a bit at your house!! I must say that your DH is a good sport-that was a pretty nasty surprise!! Definitely a Kodak moment though!! LOL!!

I don't blame DH for being grossed out I would have grossed out! Shelby had a very sensitive system as a puppy and we had to change from Origin to another food (vet was concerned it was too high in protein....). Well, 4 foods later we have a winner - Fromm Puppy Gold! I hope she does well on the Origin. Shelby ate lots of pumpkin as a pup.... I gave her a big tablespoon full before every meal - called it her "appetizer" - she loved it! Glad Rua is back to regular!!! Is she a mini - 4 pound pup sounds small to me - Shelby was 9 pounds, but is a medium!

Rua sounds like she is doing great! We had (still have) soft stools now and then with our pup; like the others said, probably because of trying different treats. I found Zukes the best treats so far, and even tho they are tiny, I break each one into 4 pieces so they are extra small, then he is getting less! :) Rua is so cute, can't wait to hear more stories!

I can just picture your DH now...this is so funny. He really sounds like a great sport! I love hearing about Rua...what a good girl. You're really getting "the hang" of being a Doodle Mom already....that pumpkin was the perfect thing to do. I thnk "F" is right about the treats. Tiny pieces of chicken might be a good choice. Keep up the blogs....they're fun!

I think the treats may be the problem. Many treats can cause diarrhea. I still have to watch what I give my much bigger doodles. Anything too fatty,or with too much flour doesn't do too well here. I stick with Zuke's minis and dried chicken pretty much. You puppy is tiny so I'd think you need to start with tiny pieces of treats.
