Sunday is my family day...Conor and I take Lady Peri and Taquito for a day at mom and dad's....they play with Cousin Charley and Aunt Lucy outside, while we visit with mom, dad, grandmother and my sister. It is usually a fun day!

Last night we enjoyed a great dinner outside. The dogs were running around having fun. We went inside after dinner to work on a puzzle and have some wine. Peri stayed outside with Lucy (terrier). Lady P is used to being over there and tends to get into my moms herbs (basil and rosemary plants). Other than that, she is pretty well-behaved and stays away from other things in the yard.

Well, I let her in the door around 8:30 and she was foaming at the mouth! It scared the crap out of me. Called Conor into the room, who freaked out more than I did. We could not find what she got into. I decided to give her hydrogen peroxide just in case she ingested something bad. Then I called the emergency vet, who calmed me down. He said this can happen to dogs for multiple reasons: they ate something bitter, licked a toad (yes, they used that example), etc...

He said not to worry unless she continued foaming at the mouth or acting weird all night. As soon as I got off the phone, she threw up (good thing since I induced it) and then fell asleep. Foaming stopped. And I am happy to report that she is fine this morning. Totally herself.

It was such a scare! Still don't know exactly what happened, but I think she could have found a citronella candle and may have licked it. She was looking at it very curiuosly...should have put that out of reach immediately, but will remember it next time.

I just wanted y'all to be aware that foaming at the mouth does not necessarily mean a trip to the ER is needed.

On another note, life with Peri is calming down. She is so well-behaved now. We just love her. I guess we are approaching those dreaded "teenage" days and my next post will be complaining about her craziness! LOL

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Well glad it was nothing serious! One time my first dog ate a whole bag of Fishermens Friend! She was hacking, foaming at the mouth, wretching, but had very crisp fresh mentholated breath.

Joining the others in expressing relief and joy that Peri is okay! I'd be a wreck. So glad the outcome was good!

I heard to take 1 teaspoon of peroxide to 1 teaspoon of peanutbutter...mix them together and your dog will eat it. Glad to hear Peri is okay and no trips to the Vet.

I gave her about 2 capfulls. It doesn't take much. It is completely safe and my vet told me to use it if my dogs ever eat something they shouldn't (or in this case, where I wasn't sure about it). They throw up within just a few minutes. It is a great tip.

Just curious. How much hydrogen peroxide do you give them? I have never heard of this. Also how do you get them to take it?

I am so glad that Peri is okay! These puppies sure do keep us on our toes, don't they? Thank goodness for hydrogen peroxide!
