In the last 48 hours there have been 3 posts regarding fencing .... resulting in 2 tragedies and one averted tragedy! I think that we need to declare this National DoodleKisses Double Check Your Fence Day! Whether you have vinyl, aluminum, wood, wire, or even invisible fencing, take a moment and walk your fence line. Check all your boards and posts and make sure they are sturdy and strong. If you have invisible fencing, check your batteries, double check your boundaries, test your dog and make sure they know their boundaries, tempt them to see if they will bust the boundaries etc. So, please join me in taking a little time today to STOP and LOOK at our fences, and CHECK to be sure we are keeping our babies safe! Let's all do it for Thule!

When I was having extensive repair work done on my house, I had to check daily to be sure the workers closed the gates. My phone calls to the crew boss didn't seem to be doing any good. On this particular day I had checked the gates, then was taking photos of the work and mess in my yard. I didn't notice that the section next to my gate had been removed--but Elmo did!

My gate has a spring so it closes automatically. I do have some loose fence boards that need to be fixed but there's too much frozen snow against it. Has to wait till spring.

Good reminder to check fences. My son has an older fence and I have reminded him several times to fix it or he may end up with a broken heart. The bad spot is in an obvious area and I saw it because Tyke was trying to get out. My son did a temporary fix but I know it won't hold especially because Tyke is and extremely smart, determind and strong Puggle. I'm going to call him again today!! I like the idea of putting a sign on the fence that says "I love my dogs, Please please please make sure the gate is shut when you leave"!!!!

We have a little Shiz Tsu in the neighborshood that can squeeze between the posts on our fence. He always looks a little scared when he gets in and encounters Lucy and Sophie, like, "Why was it I wanted to come in here, was I crazy". Sophie loves little dogs so she always tries to engage him to play, but he just doesn't seem to know quite what to think of the girls. Usually just turns around and squeezes right back through the fence.

Sue ..... That happened to me the other day. Fortunately the girls were just so happy to get to be outside and lose, that they just looked at it and stayed in the back yard anyway. It was later that I noticed it was open. We don't have a doggie door, and I take them out to potty on a leash, so anytime I'm going to let them out to play, I now double check both gates 1st. I'd be really upset if someone I was paying (like a lawn service) left the gate open. That's unacceptable. Utility workers/meter readers, I'm not sure how you control that one (maybe a sign on the gate that says "I love my dogs, Please please please make sure the gate is shut when you leave".

Our problem is the gate not being shut properly whenever utility workers, lawn service, etc. come in the back yard. I don't know how many times the gate is left open. Luckily the dogs only wandered a few doors down, but it could of been a lot worse!

Luca managed to get out today again. I walked the fence line, which is difficult for me to get to in some places, and found a couple of possible places he could have slipped through. I fixed them but the dogs won't be going out alone until I'm sure they are secure. This kind of tragedy could happen to any of us.

Thank you so much for reminding us... I am off today, so I will walk my yard to check my fence, with prayer for Thule.

That is a great idea. I wish I had a fence to check :(

Thanks for posting this! I am going to walk my fence line this morning before I do anything else. And I will be thinking of sweet Thule the whole time.
