Yesterday Haley decided what veggies DH and I would have for dinner. We were all out in the yard, DH and I picking up Haley’s poops and Haley just nosing around. I noticed he was chewing on something and asked “what do you have?”. Haley ran with his treasure.  When I was finally able to get him to sit he dropped it … it was a carrot he had pulled from the garden. (He got to keep his treasure.) I had not planned on harvesting the carrots Sunday afternoon but since Haley now thinks they are ready I harvested what turned out to be about 10 pound of carrots.
The carrots were delicious last night and will be for many nights to come. Haley, of course, gets his as a treat when I am preparing them for dinner.
This little (65 pound) guy really likes his veggies!

That must have been fun to see!  Trav loves carrots too, and canned beets.  I don't think a garden would survive in 'his' space.  The daffodils suffered a lot last spring.

Cooper used to love carrots (and brocoli) but now is not interested.

Youll have to make some carrot soup!

We had 10 inches of snow on the ground for a week - too much.  I am a transplanted Fla. (Miami) girl and will never get used to Virgnia winters.

We keep one section of the four section garden fenced off - stuff that is too little or too easy to pick.  The rest has to fend for itself against our big veggie harvester/eater.

Haley likes to pull the broccoli plants out of the ground and  play with them eventually eating the whole plant - roots and all.  He eats just about any veggie and particularly likes rotten tomatoes!

Our girls have to pick their carrots out of the bottom shelf of the refrigerator door!  I often keep a small bowl of baby carrots in there for them to get if they want.  Anytime they hear the door open they will come running when they know there are carrots in there!  I can't even imagine if we tried to have a garden in their playspace ...... not sure it would survive.

Sounds like "heaven" to me, too! I would love to have the space (and the soil and temperature) to be able to grow my own veggies!

I just had to look at your page to see where you lived, since you were able to be in the yard picking carrots.  Right about now that sounds like "heaven" to me.  We still have over a foot of snow in our back yard.  My guys won't eat any raw veggies...but they love them when they're cooked.  Haley is a lucky Dood to be able to "pick" his treats right in his own back yard.
