Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Well, it finally happened, we moved. It actually happened a couple of weeks ago but I haven't been very diligent in photographing the new place. I decided to just update all of you with the pictures I do have.
So, we put down our deposit and packed our stuff, and prepared to move. For those of you who don't know, we've been living at the in-laws while we save money for school. It was supposed to be about 3 months, it ended up being 8. While being there was a bit tough at times, Darwin really loved living in the country with so many people he loved.
Especially DH's sister Kate. She is 18, and over the past months she and Darwin became best friends. As in, he loves more more than me and Jacob combined. :-) Jacob and I have spent 2 years trying to teach Darwin roll over with no success, Kate tries for 15 minutes and he happily did it. LOL. Often we would go to take him out of his crate in the morning, only to realize that Kate came and got him to sleep with her. Spoiled dood. :-)
Well, not only did we move 2 1/2 hours away, but Kate moved to Wyoming for a summer job. When DH and I drove Kate to Wyoming, Darwin stayed at the in-laws. My MIL informed me that he wouldn't settle down until she let him into Kate's room, and he jumped up on her bed and fell asleep on her pillow. (aw....) We are actually visiting them now and he keeps going to her room throughout the day and nosing the door open, only to find her gone. He has been pretty mopey and downcast, but I'm confident he'll return to his peppy self soon. Kate misses him too of course, but we've been sending her pictures and updates of him way more than is normal or necessary. :-)
But about the move and the apartment, it's AMAZING! It's a town home, with lots more room than we are used to and Logan is so gorgeous and green. Darwin settled right into the house from day one. Usually it takes him about a week of slight nervous jumpiness and the occasional bark. By the evening on the first day he was lounging in the sun by the sliding glass door, on his back with his paws in the air.
The apartment manager and the other staff love him, OF COURSE. They all fawn over how adorable and calm he is. Darwin, DH and I have had a fun time walking around and exploring, there is so much fun stuff within walking distance.
The first two things that happened for Darwin when we moved was 1) a bath. Bathing Darwin in the shower was impossible at the in-laws so we used the dog wash that was located at the local car wash. The water was cold and it was expensive so he didn't get bathed very often. He sure was happy to be bathed in a warm shower this time, well as happy as he can ever be about getting a bath.
The second item of business was to start rigorous training again. The in laws SPOILED him majorly. No follow through on commands, way too many treats, etc. So we've started working on that. He's doing really well!
Overall I am excited for the future, and just so grateful for our wonderful dood. He is so amazing at adapting to new situations, nothing throws him. I'm so proud of him for taking all of this in stride, and being such a good boy even when his life has been turned upside down. Darwin, you are the best!

Great news, Camilla. Hope you all settle in quickly and enjoy this new chapter in your lives...
Congratulations on your new home! Darwin is obviously settling in very well--enjoyed the pictures and blog! He is just such a BIG personality.
Love that Darwin!
I just loved reading this - Darwin of course is one of my favorite doods. The photos are so cute AND I do believe that there needs to be a future doodle - someday down the road for Kate! In a side note - you sound very lucky to have gotten some very caring in-laws.
What a good boy you have! And adorable too! It must be nice to have your own place again! Enjoy!
What a great blog! Love the pictures. Darwin is so darn cute! And with such expressive eyes.
Congratulations on the move and all the best for the future, Camilla.
Donna, he totally is! I'm wondering if it might be that he needs an eye hair trim. Either that or he's being a moody teenager.
That is terrific news Camilla. All you young folks are moving on up : ) The new home sounds great and Darwin will get over Kate and be happy to see her on visits later on. Enjoy your new place and your clean, well behaved doodle. Best of luck.
