There is a lesson in this, just don't know what it is. UPDATE

UPDATE:
The shower was absolutely beautiful and everyone had such a nice time. I was happy I invested as much time and effort in it, but then I tend to over plan everything! As far as the half marathon, I decided to not add insult to injury and take it easy that morning and just cheer on my friends and family. Very hard for a runner to do, but all i have to do is look at the black and blue that is from my thigh to my ankle.
So after 6 trips to the airport, 6 days of company, a dinner party for 10 family members on sat. a shower with 22 guests, clean up and housecleaning monday and tues, I have been either on the couch or in bed all day!!!!!!
The dogs actually got lots of attention and a few walks to the dog park and car rides to the airport, so they have been laying around all day with me just as exhausted. Back to work tomorrow! What a week!

As some of you know, I am hosting our daughter's baby shower this Sunday as well as run/walking a half marathon earlier that day. We have been preparing and planning for this day for months. We have family and friends flying in from all over to do one or the other or both events with us. I have planned a catered, sit down dinner for 25 women, outdoors by the pool, flowers and candles floating in the pool, LED lights in trees, rented tables and chairs, etc and etc.
I have taken a week off work to enjoy my time with friends, the first of which is flying in as I write this. I have lists upon lists of what to do. And where to go,

Well you know what they say about the best laid plans.....all this planning and Preparation and anticipation has just been exhausting but fun! However I didn't know how to plan for what's happened this week! It started tues when I was woken by what felt like a needle being stuck into my finger, WTD? Was I dreaming? NO! This hurts like heck! Ok, try to go back to sleep cuz I have to go to work one more day before my busy fun week off. Get up and have radiating pain from finger to elbow! And my finger is numb and sensitive to touch ! What the heck did I do? Sleep wrong on it? Okay, call the chiropractor and try to get in ASAP . Oh yeah, i work with babies all day with one arm? That's gonna be fun.

So I get thru the day and can't wait to go to chiropractor ! Counting the hours when till 2:00 that the office said they can see me. Then he calls to say he had a dentist apt. Have to do much later, 4 more hours. Okay, finally get to the chiro, he can't figure out what the heck I did but I get an adjustment, go home, ice it and go to bed. Can't finish wrapping those gifts tonight. Do tomorrow.
Turn to turn off the light and what do I see moving towards my Murphy but a SCORPION! OMG ! DH jumps to rescue us and now it all makes sense. I was bitten the night before by a scorpion! I'm thinking it's too late to call Poison Control asi just worked a 12 hour shift! Guess I will just have to learn to wrap gifts, bake, clean and do all my errands with my numb hand and arm.
Okay, not the end of the world, I can still get stuff done so I get up bright and early, 4:00 am. Get some things done, get to Bootcamp at 5:30 am, begin my workout with the girls and OOPS! Down I go, right onto my knee, shoulder and face!
Okay, so pick myself up, check that I still have all my teeth and get an ice pack from the coach. I keep going, check my knee in the car and it's looking pretty swollen ! But heck, I' ve got things to do so off I go to the grocery store, get the car washed, clean up the yard of dog toys and stuff, start baking and notice that I really can't bend my knee much now.
Okay, I still have lots to do. So I go take a shower and I think the warm water then makes my knee blow up to the size of a grapefruit. Or maybe it was finally saying GET OFF ME, I'M HURTING HERE!

Okay, now the pain sets in as it is so swollen I can't bend, weight bear or lift my leg. Time for ice. So I lay there thinking of all I have to do, check in on DK since I have to lay down anyway and as I look down at my knee it's now the size sof a grapefruit and throbbing terribly. Ha, and I thought the scorpion bite was painful!

Call DH, he's a a paramedic. Says it sounds like a ruptured bursa. Okay dear, so what do I do for it? Stay off it, rest, ice, compression and elevate! WHAT? Did you not hear about my plans this week? Well compassion is not his long suit so he says I must've been rushing around as usual and that's why I fell! Well yeah, I was running on the track, so yes I was rushing! Geez, he just doesn't get it. Of course I can't just lay here till the swelling goes down. So I get up, figure I will just deal with it and keep moving. Well, one step off the bed and I see pretty quickly that that is just not going to happen! But wait, I am going with my daughter for her final ultrasound today, and I'm not missing that! And I have just got to stop at bed bath and beyond to pick up some last minute things and I just have to get my nails done today!

Well, I did make it to the ultrasound, but I am now flat on my back , ice packs on and an apointment with an orthopedic doc first thing in the morning. So there has to be a lesson in all this, but I'm just not sure what it is and I sure am not liking it, but the race and the shower will go on, just not how I planned it! As I always tell my kids, it's good to plan, but have a plan B, C and D just I case things happen! Cuz they will!

I freak out over tiny spiders. In my last apartment we used to get centipedes and you have no idea how horrified I was of them. scorpions would just send me right over the edge.

I can't believe you are going to run the race! This sounds like the perfect excuse to sit backand relax and let someone else  do the rest of the work.

Sorry your week was so crappy, but I'm sure it will be smooth sailing from here on out.

Maybe it was a tarantula? I think those are a bit more dangerous! I will be getting rid of the dust ruffle as that makes sense. Thank you for the good thoughts and hugs. I am feeling so much better!

OMG! Scorpions? In the bedroom? Didn't I see that in a James Bond movie? Or was that a centipede? Either way...EWWWWWWWWW! I'm with your DH, get rid of the dust ruffle! I threw mine away because of JD's allergies, you can live without it easily, trust me!

I hope you feel better very soon and are able to enjoy the shower. Hugs from me and JD!

oh how awful! Just think of it this way - now you get to sit still and enjoy the shower and your friends without rushing around!

OMD! That is a series of events that would squelch all of the plans of a less determined and courageous person. You are a real trouper. Hoping you make a very quick recovery and have a wonderful day on Sunday.

Holy Doodles Sue....I'm so sorry to hear this. Glad it's not a fracture....good luck in the race and I'm sure the shower will be perfect.

I think I was just so relieved to find out it was just a scorpion bite and would go away and not some nerve damage or carpal tunnel that would take therapy and a long time to get better. Somehow the bite seems minor and scorpions really don't scare me anyway. Now Bears scare me, but not things I can step on and kill if I see them first!

Sally, good luck with the NYC marathon. Now that's exciting! What do you hope to do for time? Are you hoping to qualify for Boston?

best of luck with the race and the shower and happy to hear you're getting relief. Also glad that you're able to now see the "lesson learned" in all of this. It's always rattling when things get in the way of our long term plans....I had to miss out on a trip to arizona last 12/26 because NYC got 2 feet of snow and airports shut down....but the bright side of that was that i didn't have to leave my duncan doodle.

I'll be running on Sunday as well. The NYC Marathon. I have some ankle tendonitis that i've been icing daily so hopefully it'll hold up.

I still can't believe the whole scorpion thing. scaawwweeeyyyyy!
