UPDATE #2 on " Honey...Dinner will be late....Murphy ate the meatloaf!!!!"

As earlier posted we did get thru the first night with no problems, a little soft but formed stool, but during the next 72 hours we have had vomiting and diarrhea both. The diarrhea started the next day, feb 18th, which was thurs and the vomiting started Sat. night and again a few hours ago. He is going to the vet in the am, is otherwise looking and acting normal. There is no obvious blood in the stool but it is mucousy. Poor baby. Not sure if it's from the meat, or he contacted something from the dog park, or caught bacterial colitis from Marley, who we live with. My guess is the later of the 3. So we'll know more tomorrow. Marley's vet put him on Flagyl and i/d. I will do the Flagyl, but will make my own chicken and rice meals for him.

So, who knows if the meatloaf incident is related, but I will keep you all posted.

We got thru the night ok, he was a bit lazy and laid around a lot before bed,(guess digesting 1 1/2 pds of raw meat will do that to a body) no BM all evening, till about midnight when he hopped off the bed and sat by the bedroom door, (on the towel). Ofcourse I was aware of his every move and we went outside. He had 2 bowel movements (soft, but formed, looked like some meatloaf!!!) and peed and then hopped back into bed and didn't move the rest of the night. Just ate breakfast and is his jolly old self this morning. Now onto training whenever that nose gets within 2 feet of the counters or stove!!!!

Thanks for your posts, glad we could provide a chuckle to some.....(and you know who you are .....April). ;o)

Yup, Dinner was on the stove, meatloaf all made, raw, waiting to go in the oven. Mom went to computer to check on her Doodlekisses post's while oven pre-heated...and, gee....it's awfully quiet in the den....where's Murphy? "Marley, have you seen Murphy?" Worried look from Marley tells me I better go check. Sure enough.....Murphy comes around the corner of the kitchen, hears me gasp and starts crawling on the floor and looking back at me under his eyebrows like'...."Uh-oh, guess that wasn't MY dinner". Then he let's out a horrific BELCH!!!!! Now tell me, how could you NOT laugh at that?

One and a half pounds of lean ground beef, thank goodness there were no onions in it. It really is hard to be mad at him and I'm not, He's a DOG and it's dinner time. What does bother me is that 1) He ALWAYS waits till I say "OK" to go eat and obviously he didn't get the "OK" this time. and 2) He had really bad diarrhea last night ( on the carpet downstairs) and again this morning and I was going to give him rice, baked potato and chicken for dinner to help settle his tummy. ( No pumpkin to be found around here)

Needless to say, he's had a bad day.

Makes me feel better that he is among such otherwise well behaved doodles and they all mess up once in awhile. I'd have been worried about the choc. too. Good thing he was okay. Could've be very expensive brownies otherwise.

Oh my!! This story did make me laugh! I know they are soooo cute when they look at you! I'm glad he's feeling better. I had a tupperware on my counter with brownies in it and Samson pulled it down, opened the tupperware and ate all the brownies. Needless to say, I was worried about the chocolate. He was very young too when he did this, maybe 5 months old, but nothing happened. I was VERY lucky!!

Sue, we had a similar scenario last weekend with Maddie. I had taken out 2 pieces of Flank Steak to thaw, laid them in the sink with a cutting board over them (to keep Doodles & kitties out!). Then, Jerry & I had to run out for a while & I forgot to put the meat up where the girls would not be tempted. I worried about it the whole time we were gone. Well, when we got home, both pieces of meat were still there and they had not even touched it. I was SO proud of them. But, then I took the cutting board off to see how big of a dish I needed to marinate them in, turned around to get the dish out of the cabinet. When I turned back around, both pieces were GONE! It was so fast and she was so quiet, I couldn't even believe she had done it. But, sure enough, Maddie was over in the corner with a silly grin on her face, licking her chops!!
Morgan was not involved, the little angel!
I'm glad Murphy was okay, though!!

Oh April, if you only knew how close I came to backing out. Now I can't imagine life without him. We just took him out to dinner with us, sat outside (as the weather is gorgeous here, but you didn't need to know that did you?), and he was the perfect cute adorable dog that you'd expect him to be. Layed at our feet and just let people pet him.
Oh, I have a real funny story about breakfast at an outdoor cafe where he caught his harness on the table leg base and stood up and took the table leg with him one way and the table top loaded with coffee cups and water glasses and plates went flying the other way, right into a girlfriends lap. It looked like a scene out of the Marley and Me movie. Yes, life without my Murphy would be boring!

I'm glad he's doing OK. You handled it very well! Remember how nervous you were about becoming a dog owner?? A couple times I worried you were going to back out! :o)

I know this is funny and my doodle did much the same thing when he was barely big enough to reach the kitchen counter. We had already eaten supper but my son was a little late so his supper was put aside on the counter. When my son arrived home a few minutes later and was greeted at the door by an excited doodle his question was why does the dog smell like spaghetti sauce? Yup the dog had eaten a full large serving of homemade spaghetti and hadn't wasted a single lick. The plate, the counter and the floor clean as a whistle. The only thing he didn't clean was his face.

I am glad Murphy is feeling alright. I have to admit I did get a chuckle out of the story.

We can't say these doodles don't keep us all laughing!

Oh man, Sue, this made me laugh out loud. I'm so glad he's OK... and it sure sounds like he knew he did something wrong. Reminds me of way back when we had our chocolate labradoodle Coco. I left him alone for about 5 minutes. I suddenly realized it had gotten VERY quiet in the kitchen. I went in there and Coco was facing the wall. I said, "Coco! What are you doing?" He turned around and his face was WHITE - it was plaster. He chewed a hole in the wall the size of a dinner plate! Oy vey... :-)
