Very curious what your doodles do when you vacuum. Allie, now at 6 months old, has more freedom to roam around the house. Today I was vacuuming and I was surprised to find that she was not scared of the vacuum but would follow me around. She kept looking at me and it looked like she was saying "o.k. when are you going to be finished with that?' I thought "I'm with you on that one". She would kind of side step the vacuum but did not seem scared of it at all. I realize I have not noticed it before because she used to be confined to one area of the house. What does your dood do?

Shelby is 4 months and she is not afraid, but she sure isn't following me around. She stays a safe distance and watches. She knows the "Purple Beast" - my Dyson Animal and will move forward as I pull the vacuum close to me and backs up as I push it forward. It's hillarious.

Jordan could not care less about the vacuum. If she is on the floor, I have to tell her to move,or if I am vacuuming the stairs she is 2 steps below me.People are always surprised.

Some days Thomas just watches me while I vacuum, other days he attacks it. We have "central" vacuum with a long hose and when he is in the mood he grabs the hose in his mouth and flips it around. Problem? Yes cause he is putting holes in the hose with his teeth. I believe that reduces the suction, so this is not good.

Peri goes to another room and sticks her head out and watches from afar. Sometimes she goes to her crate - she isn't scared, but she isn't running up to it either. Taquito hates the vacuum and runs from it. It is pretty funny....

Sophie has just been with us a little over a week now. The first time I got the vacuum out she went quickly to the other room. Then she followed me around peeking into each room to see what I was doing. As I finished the last room I couldn't find her. I walked into the family room and there she was all stretched out "Queen of the Sofa". She knew she wasn't allowed up there. I had to laugh before I shooed her off.

Tori ATTACKS the vacuum. She actually bites and tries to lift it off the floor with her mouth. I have to be careful she doesn't get hurt. She also makes this really high pitch kind of yelp while she attacks.

Ted (10/11 weeks) isn't bothered by it at all. I can hoover right next to him - he looks but that's it. But the mop... well the mop is a totally different story. But I think that is largely due to DS4 who taught him what a fantastic play thing it is. ( I don't make him mop the floor btw, he insists!)

Neely follows me around and wants a little attention! He likes to be played with the extension hose with the attachments on it to suck his fur. Now the roomba robitic one he doesn't like as much. It has no real plan that it follows so it zigs and zags and circles all over the place so it is like he thinks it is nuts so he gets on the couch so it doesn't sneak up on him.
Comment by Anne & Mr. Haley on February 28, 2010 at 8:15am
From the very beginning Haley thought of the vacuum as a play toy jumping at it barking and grabbing the floor attachment of the canister vac. He still does this but as he is now a 66 pound doodle he gets too rough pulling the bare floor attachment off the wand so I have to tell him NO. He goes off and does his “thing” while I finish cleaning. If he is on his pillow and I need to vacuum it and around it I have to evict him. However, the rug attachment with the beater brushes freaks him out.

Holly was scared of the vacuum at 6 months and would pounce it and then run. I started making her do sit/stay while I vacuumed, and now at 9 months it doesn't bother her at all. I usually give her a treat as a reward if she can sit/stay long enough for me to finish a room, then do it again for the next!
