Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This is Dakota. She was pulled last night from the PSPCA by two wonderful DRC volunteers, and brought to equally wonderful DRC director Lynne Fowler's home at 11 p.m. last night.

Dakota is a 1-2 yr old Miniature Labradoodle. She was brought in as a stray and she has a compound fracture of the left front distal radius and ulna. She must have been hit by a car. She is currently splinted and on Tramadol for pain. This injury will not heal properly with a cast. Her injuries require orthopedic surgery or an amputation.
Dakota is a very sweet and beautiful girl with a great disposition. Despite her injuries she is very active and ready to play.

Dakota was seen by the vet today, and the prognosis for saving her leg with surgery is excellent. The cost of the surgery will be $3200.
The DRC has committed to saving Dakota's leg and she is having the surgery. Having just also taken in a heartworm positive doodle yesterday, this expense will deplete the DRC's reserves, making it difficult if not impossible to save more doodles from euthanasia in kill shelters across the country.

We ask for so much from you here in the Doodle Kisses forum, and you never let us down. The incredible work that the DRC has done this past year, the doodles who have been saved from abuse, illness, and euthanasia, and who now have loving homes, none of this could have been done without you.
We need your help again. Please help us by donating to Dakota's Fund. Anything you send for this purpose will go directly to the vet bills for Dakota's surgery. We will keep a running total of all the funds donated and update you as they are received, as was done last year for Sophie's fund. Crossposting is appreciated, too.
I know none of us has much to spare these days, especially at this time of year, but anything will help. Anything at all.

Great news about the surgery going well!!! I am also amazed at the outpouring of support from everyone! I hope Dakota gets to enjoy a bit of this snowy white stuff that is falling on our side of the country!
She has been out a few times today. We have about an inch of snow right now, with more to come. She is sporting a shearling coat to keep her warm, a blue cast and a lovely freezer ziplock bag rubber banded around the cast. She seems more alert, this morning and has even did a little sashay trot when the other dogs went running to the far back of the yard.

I can't even begin to Thank all of you. You are all amazing. She is such a pretty girl and deserves this chance at a healthy life.
Ah- this is so nice to know. keep us updated with pictures too!
I am so glad to hear that she is doing well. I would love to visit her sometime, if you thought it was appropriate. If ever you wanted me to take photos of her or any of the dogs ... let me know.
I see that it now says total cost is $3200, was the cost less than anticipated. I love the RBVH Vets. Dr. Sammarco's husband is a Vet cardiologist there, too. She & he are supposed to be very good.
Do you still have Ollie? If so, how is he doing?
Sue, I had Trooper not Ollie and he went to his Forever Home 2 weeks ago. He is doing well and his new family are completely in love with him. They have 2 girls who are 9 and 12 and think he is the best dog in the world. The vets at RBVH are all wonderful. Dr. Sammarco called me this morning to check on Dakota and was pleased that she is doing well. The next 24 hours or so are key to make sure there is no infection or swelling but I am keeping her quiet and comfortable and I think she will do fine.

As she will be here for Christmas Eve, I have put up a stocking for her so that Santa will bring her a present or two. She will not be forgotten this year for Christmas. I have no clue where she (or Jazzy) spent last Christmas, but this year they will both "be HOME for Christmas." We'll list and find Dakota a new home in the New Year.
Yes, I knew you had Trooper, because I met him at your house when I picked up
Pickles and also when we went together to the Vet. I am so happy about Trooper ... boy did he deserve a good home.
I was just curious about the dog that had severe separation anxiety ... who had him and how is he?

We were just wondering how Dakota is doing. Was she able to go out in the snow?
Thanks for all of your time and energy with helping Dakota. Made a little donation. Let Dakota know we all care and wish her a speedy recovery and a happy life ahead!
Thanks so much for your kindness, Pat!
Hey everyone, I changed the total of the amount needed because Dakota didn't need to be spayed (they found the scar after they shaved her down) and the estimate given was on the high side and was changed after the surgery. So now you have come through with 37% of the amount needed. What a family you are!
I cannot stop thinking about her... in the first photo's that were posted of Dakota, it looks like she had been freshly groomed so someone must have been caring for her Also, it was stated by Lynne that she had already been spayed and this was discovered when they shaved her down and found the scar so someone cared enough for her to have this surgery. The original post also said she was found as a stray in the streets. So she was not brought in by a family that did not want her anymore so... my question is ; what could have happened to her? I suppose it doesn't matter anymore as she is good hands and will go to a loving family but... I can't stop wondering.
My mind went there too. I was wondering if her former owners are missing her.
