Lucca is almost 18 months and he is still suckling his stuffed toy like a
pacifer at night when he wants to go to sleep. It is so darn cute. I can't believe he is still doing it at this age. Anyone else experiencing this?

WOW that is the cutest thing. Belle does not have any "security blanket" like that (her soft toys usually don't last long enough for her to develop an emotion attachment to them as she makes a game out of trying to chew through them to get the squeakers out)
Interestingly, it is only this toy and another one that's in the shape of a bone that he does this to. He destroys ALL his other toys just like Belle does. He's been doing this since he was a pup and he only does this early morning and nighttime.
Tori has been doing something new, kinda' like what you are talking about... she is taking my fuzzy slippers and just laying with them clutched under her chin, paws, and/or chest, and laying with them under the table or on her bed. At first she used to sneak it away and hide. Now, I guess because we are not taking it away, she's coming 'round with them in her mouth. She also has been taking various articles of clothing that is LAYING around (that should NOT be - my boys), and stashing them under the table and laying on them. One night she had quite the stash ... a sweatshirt, a glove, a sock, my slipper.... too funny (and WAY too cute to take away from her at that time)
Oh my God, first of all, I thought you had stolen a picture of my dog Dexter and posted it...he has the exact same bone, and looks JUST Like that!! I'll have to find a pic for you... so yes, my dog does the exact same thing....one trainer we talked to said if they do it at all, they'll do it forever. My mom dies laughing because he's a huge beast of a dog (80 lbs) sucking on his little "blankie". It's one of my absolute favorite things he does and he even takes it one step further, he'll usually bring it over to you when he wants to snuggle and will cozy up next to you to suck on it and hold it. love it.

OMG...They look like twins!!! Only Lucca is half Dexter's size!! Yeah, Lucca brings it on the couch and snuggles next to me. Him doing it forever is fine with me. It's so soothing and calming for him. For me too...I love watching him do it.
Maggie is 18 months old too. She has a microfleece blanket that I put in her crate that she drags out, chews holes in it when feeling rambuncous(SP?) but at night she lays on it and sucks on it too!
That is the cutest thing!!!!!!! And the wonderful thing is you don't feel pressure to break him of it as we do with our human children - after all they can't go off to school with their pacifier/blankies!
So true!!! It's great that you don't have to break him of this habit.
Such an adorable picture. I hope he does this forever. We had friends that had a Golden Retriever and he carried around a big bed pillow everywhere. It was his security blanket too. Very cute!
This is the cutest darned thing I've ever heard of!! Absolutely precious. And to think Lucca is big enough to destroy that toy in about 3 min. Awww, the big baby Huey!! My lab used to carry around various "babies" I called them but they were the kids stuffed toys. She knew not to destroy them too. But he didn't suck on them. Big stress reliever, I'll bet.
Muppet does have some soft toys that he likes to have with him in bed when he sleeps, but I've never seen him sucking on them (I'd like to see a video of that). For some reason, these soft toys are different than other ones because he isn't destructive with them like he can be with other ones.
I will try a video. I haven't had much success with doing one though. There are 2 sheepskin toys that he won't destroy. Just uses them to suckle and put in his mouth when he greets someone at the door. People think he wants them to take it away from him to play, but he's just sayin' "hi" holding his "baby":)
It's very sweet
