I had NO idea labradoodles or goldendoodles existed, let alone were "popular" or controversial until one day Clark (who I was dating still in Nov 2005) suggested I look up "Labradoodle" because I kept talking about getting a puppy of my own. That suggestion resulted in HOURS and DAYS and WEEKS of research on the internet and a brand new obsession. NEVER had wanted a furry dog before.
I'm not even sure I even MET one until he got Thule 2 months before I got Rosco.
Chose a labradoodle over goldendoodle merely cuz I like the labbier look (despite Rosco's curls which I LOVE now).
well one day I was looking in our local newspaper for you guessed it a puppy:)
when I came across goldendoodles for sale, so I called and asked what is a goldendoodle? then I got on the computer and looked them up, I couldn't believe how beautiful they were. I've been crazy about them ever since!!!!
We had been pet sitting for our sister in laws dog - a mixed breed. He had been spending a lot of time at our house. My wife and children were trying to soften me up to get a dog of our own. One of my SIL's neighbors has a Goldendoodle, Charlie (Boomer's older brother). To make a long story short - Charlie spent a day with us - I fell in love with him. I was then told that a brother of his was available. Of course that was Boomer. It was a set-up.
Well this may be to much information but for a while I was seeing a counselor. She had a goldendoodle from Doodleville. I guess she would be considered a therapy dog...LOL... but I fell in love with her. I had never heard of or seen one before. After that I had started to hear about Labradoodles and made the common mistake of thinking thats what Olive was. I just couldn't shake how great I thought Olive was. She was so intuitive and so human like. It was all in her eyes (I know everyone knows what I am talking about with the eyes). She was just like no other dog I had ever met. It wasn't until a few years later that I finally decided I needed one of my own. I had to ask what the exact combination was. So I too got a Apricot Poodle/Golden mix.
year ago around 1990 I read about Labradoodles and why they were created.
I kept up with some more reading on them and said, "One day i'll have a labradoodle" but couldnt' afford the high prices back then. so i put the dream aside.
Oct. 7th, 2006 while eating breakfast at country diner my fiance showed me an ad for a ridiculously low price for a labradoodle in my town! So to humor him, i called ad and made appt to see "MAX" at 5pm. At 7pm i wrote a check while Dave held max in his arms grinning ear to ear.
Became friends with breeder and Feb 5, 2007 "PEANUT" came home with us.
We had been breeding and showing pure-bred Maltese for over twenty years and we also owned during that time a champion Portuguese Water Dog. We were also interested in getting an Anatolian Shepherd before the Anatolians were accepted into the AKC; so in addition to AKC shows we also visited Rare Breed Shows. As a result; I thought that I was pretty familiar with most dogs.
Wrong! As I was visiting a friend in a local hospital. I rode the elevator down with this large absolutely beautiful dog who was a therapy dog for the hospital. I thought he was an over-sized soft-coated wheaton terrier but, found out that he was a Goldendoodle. It was love at first sight.
We had recently lost our rescue big dog (German Shepherd-Golden Retriever-Wolf) to cancer after ten wonderful years. We wanted a Golden Retriever cross-breed of some type because we absolutely loved the personality of the dog we lost. However, we could do without the bushels of shedding twice a year and during most of the rest of the year.
The more we investigated Goldendoodles, the more we loved them. We researched them on the Internet and from books. We visited a Doodle romp in South Orange County, CA where there were 35 Doodles (both Goldendoodles and Labradoodles). This reinforced our decision to get a Goldendoodle. These beautiful dogs got along with each other so well that you would have thought that they were litter-mates.
We have always liked dogs with somewhat shaggy faces and beards, we love the looks of Bearded Collies and Otter Hounds. So Doodles were just what Judy and I wanted.
We have had Holly since early February and we could not be happier with our choice. She is everything we had hoped for and more.....
Our wonderful previous big dog was beautiful and stately however, she was so imposing that many people were a little bit wary of her until they got to know her. It is just opposite with Holly, as I walk her, people will either approach her to pet her or at least smile at us. People with small dogs are not wary of Holly nor are people with children. Holly loves small dogs and kids above anything else (well, maybe chewies are up in that group too).

I've known about the breed for quite some time, but I was so under the stigma that the only dog anyone should own was a Retreiver (either Lab or Golden) and that no other dog would ever measure up (so snobby I know).
Well then my dear cousin got a labradoodle and I fell in love and for awhile I continued to research the Labradood...then I discovered Goldendoodles and preferred their coat and look and the rest is history, it was just a matter of finding the right one for our family,
and Paddington was FATE...or meant to be our puppy :)
It was 2002/2003ish and I wanted another dog (DH did not) I wanted Stand. Poodle. I google'd Poodle and Labradoodle also came on a website from a poodle breeder in BC.
I saw one and it was love at first sight. It was before the craze and no websites that I found had prices. The one in BC was the closest to me at the time. I emailed Beverly down is Australia and I got the price. I did not want to fly a puppy to me.
So I kept looking and begging DH. He was not fond of the price at all. I found a breeder finally in Gig Harbor, and one in Seattle. I was going to go with the Gig Harbor breeder. I knew I wanted an F1 because I like the shaggy look. I love the fleece coat also.
Then I found a lady here in Puyallup. The rest is history....
I talked about LD's for 2 years before I got her.Everyone who knew me knew I wanted one.
3 days before I got Jordan I had emailed my friends and family and said that I no longer wanted a LD because Trya Banks did a show on the "It" dog of the year.
I did not want the "trendy" dog.
So when some of my family/friends read their emails from me is went like this:
1st dont want one
2ed Look at my new LD puppy named Jordan
I got a lot of phone calls on that one.
