Toby has a skin infection on his leg, for which he has to take an antibiotic and Benadryl.  The first time I wrapped them in a bit of cheese slice....no problem.  The next time he ate the cheese and spit out the pill.  Next I crushed them and put them in a little beef gravy.  That worked twice, now he is turning his nose up at it.  I spread the gravy/pill mixture on a little actual beef, and when he went to bite it I scraped the gravy mixture off  the beef against the back of his teeth so he'd actually consume it.  Then I let him have the beef too.  But....there's got to be a better way.  He just watches me get it ready and looks like he's thinking "Whatever.  I'm not eating that."  Too bad doodles are so smart.

They have them at petsmart.
Liverwurst was my answer! Toby loves it, and it's easy to wrap around a pill.
yes those are awesome! my dogs think they are getting an awesome treat :)
Something that worked well for us is liverwurst. When the cheese, peanut butter and all else failed, I would take a small chunk of liverwurst which is soft and pliable and wrap the pills in it. It is really a stinky, smelly lunch meat and my dogs have loved it. Granted it is not a "healthy" as cheese (?) and or peanut butter, but it was worth it to get the pups to take their medicine. After that we learned about pill pockets, but the liverwurst worked better!
Agreed - liverwurst is the perfect consistency for pills. One of my friends uses it for her dog's pills too.
We have put the pill in cheese and then put it in the food bowl with her normal dinner. She just gobbles it up and does not realize that she has had a pill. This is the only way for us.
Peanut butter.
My Vet showed me how to give Allie a pill without even needing to hide it in food... you just stand in front of the dog while they are in a sit, with their head up toward the ceiling, open their mouth and drop the pill in her throat while massaging the front of her throat... she has never had any issues when I do that...
We are lucky that both of ours are good pill takers. I just throw it in their bowl with the kibble and down in goes!! Our friends used to squish the pill in a small piece of bread and that worked for them. Or how about the Greenies Pill Pockets??
I bought some liverwurst while I was doing groceries. I am positive that will work! As soon as Toby hears me getting a pill out he wanders over to watch what I'm putting it in. WAY too smart. :)
Let him taste some liverwurst without any pills in it - that might help. Once they taste it, they want more!

And try to distract him so he doesn't see when you put the pills in whatever you use. Good Luck!
My vet suggested putting a little natural peanut butter in the palm of yor hand and let them lick it off. Then bury the pill in a blob of peanut butter on your palm and let them lick it off again. For a 2 week course of pills she said lots of sugar in reg peanut butter. I was skeptical that he would lick around the pill but it worked for us.Guess he will suffer anything for peanut butter!
