what type of work do you do? Just curious how many much other common ground we may share other than a passion for the most awesome dogs around. If you do not work outside the home but did, what would you do? Or what type of work have you done in the past? And of course you know that I am not implying that being at home is not work also ~ I have done it both ways (and continue to). Have a great night!

So for my outside the house job I work for a coin company outside of Orlando, FL. I mostly deal with internet listings like on ebay and do a little work on our website, as well as a few other hats. Of course my 'at home jobs' are numerous, but no complaints ~ just keeps me on my toes.

After working for 11 years in heavy assembly (I manufactured semi trailers!!!), I finally decided I'd had enough; quit and went back to school for two years and got an Associate's degree as a Medical Administrative Specialist. As it turns out, I got a job working at a pediatric dental office at the front desk and then got promoted to financial coordinator. I truly love my job, coworkers, and my employers (the docs) are awesome. The factory life was fine for providing for my kids when they were growing up (getting done at 2:30 was great for making it to volleyball, basketball, and softball games!), but I feel so much healthier in my new career. It was definitely a good change, and I love having a desk of my own to display pictures of my grandson and our doodles!!
I've been a firefighter since 1978. I did 20 years as a USAF firefighter. I'm currently a firefighter with the Metro Washington Airports Authority in northern Virginia. Been with them since 2000. I work at Ronald Reagan/Washington National and Dulles International airports. Been doing the fireman thing since I graduated high school. Part-time I drive a delivery truck.
Thank you for your service, Joe! My father-in-law volunteers with our city's fire department. I have the utmost respect for the work you all do.

Sadly, though, I'm guessing you were awfully close to the events of 9/11... In which case, I hope you've recovered from that horrible day.
Thank you Jen and thank your father-in-law for me. I'm a volunteer also on my days off.
Yes I was very close to the events of 9-11. I was on duty and driving one of the 2 large green airport foam units you see in the pictures of the Pentagon that morning. We got to the scene about 5 minutes after the plane hit. A group of us went down to see the Pentagon memorial last Friday night while at work. It was the first time myself and a couple of the guys I work with had been back there since that week.
My goodness, the things you must have seen. Bless your heart.

I saw a little clip of the memorial on the news last week. It was breathtaking. What a lovely tribute to those who died.

Again, thank you.
Teacher here! I went back to school in my 30's & 40's (it took me 10 years) and got my teaching degree and now work in a low income inner city school. Asbury Park (of Bruce Springsteen fame). I feel like I am "paying it forward" by doing this. Some days are very hard, some rewarding.

My husband is also a volunteer fireman and was at the ferry return on September 11th and helped wash off fleeing people from lower Manhattan. He was at Ground Zero the next day, hoping to help.

All our rescue people should be commended for all they do and all they go through. They are the real front lines in our protection.
That is GREAT......makes me have hope I'm not too old to return to the working world!!!
I currently work at home part-time as an Au Pair Coordinator, although this is not going well with our economy and in our area, so have been looking for a better position. I have a Social Work degree. I have an interview next week for the Assistant Director of our Youth Enrichment Services here in our town, that too is part-time..........so we'll see how that goes.

Before all of this, I was a SAHM for more than 10 years, and loved every min. of it, but as the kids got older felt I needed more. I have worked in the area of Child Care, Early Intervention, and Foster Care/Adoption with my dagree......all were great jobs:)
I am an accountant in our family business. I work from 7-4:30 each day..have 1/2 hr drive to and from work. Then...of course being the mommy of a VERY busy little 7 year old....we have travel soccer 3 times a week. Girl scouts every other week...and now basketball will be starting!! My husband is in an HVAC installer/service tech. We juggle our busy lives each and every day. Now with two doodles it is even harder...however we make it work!!! Sometimes when a day arises that I have nothing to do (like maybe twice a year LOL) I don't know what to do with myself!!
I started out as a hairstylist...and still do this on the side, but I am currently working at an AAHA certified pet hospital as front reception...a super busy, but super rewarding job!
I worked at State Farm Insurance for 25 years as an auto claims adjuster. When I "retired" from State Farm, my husband had been asked to assist in completing the construction of Holland America Line's private island (Half Moon Cay) in the Bahamas. After the construction was completed, they asked him to be the owner's representative there on the island so of course I played a lot while he worked! It was a welcome world after the stress of handling auto claims for so long. So my toughest decisions of the day were - which hammock to read my book in and where should I go diving today? It was a wonderful place to be and would go back there in a minute. But, now, back to the present, I am working for a payroll service in Richmond, VA. Not as much fun as playing on a private island in the Bahamas, but not as stressful as insurance claims, so life is good!!
