We live in the mountains and just had our first significant snow since we got Stella. She gets covered with snow clumps! (AKA snow dingleberries) How do you doodle owners in snow country deal with this winter "phenomenom"
Hi Abby, I use the detangler/shine cowboy magic. It is real silky feeling, you can put it on wet or dry hair. I also use mushers secret on her paws and inbetween her toes. You may consider getting a snowsuit like Quincy has (from neopaws) Good luck!
Last year, I set up the play yard right by the heat vent, and lined with towels. When Charlie got back inside with all of that snow on her, I just put her in that play yard and blasted the heat. In the beginning, I was nice and warmed her feet with microwaved steam towel, but it got old soon since she wanted to go out over and over again. It was like when the kids were little. I wanted to say "If you come back in next time, you are staying in!!"
That is the very reason I won't let my husband put hardwood down in the living room. Toby comes in covered in snow. He lays on the living room carpet, and he dries off. I brush him off at the back door as best I can, but I never get all the snow off. I figure - the snow is clean, it's just moisture, the carpet will dry..... :) I'm with Joanne. Dog goes out, has fun, comes in, drags in snow, gets the carpet wet.....and out again. :) Hey - winter's only 5 months long, right? And we are in Southern Ontario, so we get our fair share of snow too.
I live in Maryland and we had record breaking snow last year. We have a huge storm in December and then 2 storms days apart in Feburary. We had over 2 feet of snow which is huge for our area. Rowdy LOVED playing in the snow but he did get covered with the snow clumps. Most of the time we carried him (he's only 30 pounds) to the bathroom and used the hair dryer to melt the snow. There were a couple times when the snow clumps were so bad that the hair dryer didn't work. Then we just put him in the tub with a little bit of warm water and the snow melted right off. We didn't go right back outside thought and waited until he was dry. Rowdy was so cute to watch in all the snow. I'm hoping that we get some big accumulations again this winter!
We dunk Wally's legs (one at a time) in a deep container of warm water. Immediately afterward, we absorb the dripping water with those super-absorbent towels from the auto-supply store. You could also try a blow dryer set on medium, while Stella stands on some towels. Obviously, you need to be really careful. I also lay towels on Wally's bed to soak up any remaining dampness. Another thing that helps is his snow jacket, which keeps his belly covered. It's all worth it, though, because he absolutely LOVES the snow.
i got duncan this snowsuit last year. it covers the belly and top of the legs. i'm thinking this year to try to buy the mutt luck boots and try those as well. The best part about this snowsuit is the legs and hood both zip off and then it's a nice little rain coat too.
