My doodle just got into raw chicken...

While I was cooking dinner I walked away for a minute and when I came back, Wrigley had jumped up to the counter and was eating the raw chicken I was preparing for dinner (no seasonings). He only got about 1/4 of a chicken breast, and I read online that he'll probably throw up if it upsets his stomach, but I just wanted to see if anyone else's dog has done this and if they were ok :)

It should be totally okay. Many of the dogs in the raw food group eat raw chicken. Ours have had raw chicken and turkey necks since they were pups. Wrigley should be fine.

I feed mine raw chicken.  Wrigley probably LOVED it!

I used to feed my dogs raw chicken necks--it cleans their teeth and keeps the tartar off. I haven't done it in a while, so I would have to work them up to it again by giving them small amounts. What Wrigley ate qualifies as a small amount, I would think, and he should be fine--but you'll need to do some serious training to get him to stop getting food off the counter now that he knows that such good stuff is up there. Try putting a can of rocks (small!) on the counter with a string and wipe some peanut butter on the string. Wrigley will pull the can down and get scared by the loud noise. Some dogs are cured by this!

Our doods are fed an all raw diet - chicken included! Bingley has had 2 chicken wings for lunch daily. Both dogs are very fit and healthy - with great teeth! =)

Whopper managed to steal raw chicken breasts off the counter a few months ago.  We found a few bites missing but otherwise we just had chicken all over our living room.  The little bit she ate did not cause any tummy upset.

my dogs got salmonella after eating raw chicken :( if you dog starts to throw up, take him to the vet.

Salmonella is possible for humans as well as dogs. He'd have started showing signs of salmonella by now if that was the case.

Hunter's treat is a raw chicken leg :-)  The only bones I give her are either raw deer legs, bison hoofs, beef shanks or lamb legs, with the occasionall chicken parts and turkey necks thrown in.  Sounds gross but it won't hurt him at all! He probably thought it was his early Christmas present :-)

Yes, I believe Wrigley will be just fine.

 

My doodle once got out of the garbage can outside a tray of raw chicken that had been outside in the heat for about 2 days.  He ate a little of the plastic and styrofoam and about 2 yucky stinky chicken breasts.  I was so scared - but he was just fine. No upset stomach or anything.  Just think of the really nasty things stray dogs eat in the wild.  Call the vet if you are still worried.

Zoe's only eaten some hot wing bones from hooters out of the trash.......

 

I hope wigley is okay, but seems the general concensus is that he should be......guess you'll have one extra for dinner now!

So Julie, How is our patient?  Wrigley suffer any ill effects from the raw chicken? We need an update!  i think he was just letting you know he wants to eat a raw diet. Smart doodle.
