Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So yesterday we are walking in our downtown area and going by some sidewalk cafes.  There is a woman eating at one of the restaurants and she has her dog next to her.  Turns out the dog is a goldendoodle.  So she stops us and asks ,”is that a  goldendoodle?” and I said, “yes” She says oh I love his color how unusual and I say well he is part setter he is an Irish Goldendoodle.  She looks at me and says very coolly so he isn’t a legal goldendoodle?I didn’t really know what to say, I mean is GD a breed now?  Or is it just a type of dog ?  I kind of felt weird, for those that may have “mixes” like good ol Snickers what do you tell people?  Do you think Snickers is a goldendoodle?  Having sort of a crisis of identity for the pup right now!

Snickers is ridiculously cute. That lady sounds like a case of sour grapes and stupidity to me!
Hey Robyn,

I get the same thing with Gracie. (Who is from the same litter as Snickers) People always question if she's a real goldendoodle. Sometimes I get so sick of explaining it, that I just make them guess her parentage!! They never get it right. I feel very special to have this great, beautiful dog be mine. Last Wed when we were at the Farmers Market, someone asked if she was a mistake!! I said yes, a very expensive one!!
I look at it this way, everyone who meets Gracie grows a little in their knowledge of Goldendoodles.

Judy Allran and Gracie
How dare someone ask "Is she a mistake?" What kind of a question is that?? You look at a beautiful, sweet, friendly dog and ask that kind of question? I would have said..."Well, I don't know but are you a mistake!!" The absolute nerve of some people. Where does all that snobbery and hostility come from anyway? I just don't get it. How can anyone make a bad comment about a Doodle. They are the sweetest looking ever and they don't growl and attack or do any of those "dog" things that some "pure breeds" have been known to do!!!! Pats and hugs to Gracie from Gracie Doodle!!
Asking if your dog was a "mistake" is the equivalent of asking if your latest child was an "ooops"! Never ceases to amaze me ..... *shaking head*
Hmm maybe we need to start an Irish Goldendoodle support group---how rude they asked if he was a mistake, yes if you call years of research and testing to find a good mom and dad then I guess it was a mistake!
OH my, Snickers is beautiful. Really beautiful. Who cares what some STRANGE lady says. You have one gorgeous puppy - just enjoy him.
OMGosh! People have some nerve, don't they?
Well, the woman commented on how wonderful YOUR doggie looked-right?
Obviously she was suffering from DOODLE-ENVY!!!! Besides, no one has ever gone wrong with a little "Irish" in them!
She KNEW he was a doodle, (just a doodle with a twist!) Don't feel wierd feel lucky and just be glad that you are not LOUD and WRONG about things, like the woman you encountered!
He's a a Yankee Doodle Doo. Just like most of us Americans, all mutt, and all unique!
Here! Here!!!

Maddie is 1/2 Irish Setter and 1/2 standard Poodle - so when people say is she a golden doodle we say no she's an Irishdoodle. Hmmmmm I guess that makes her an 'illegal' doodle but we sure are head over heels in love with her just the same. A doodle is a doodle and they all seem to have all those wonderful characteristics we love.

Kirby (the redish/brown one in my avitar) is half irish setter and half poodle.  We've only found a few other dogs like him :)  I'm going to send you a message - I'm curious if they are from the same breeder :)

When we tell people he is half irish setter and half poodle...and we sometimes get the "so what do you call him" question.  Luckily most people just say he's cute...

I'd say Snickers is a 100% pure full blooded Doodle.
