I hope my doodle friends can help me out.  Wilson all of the sudden is afraid to come into the kitchen near the stove.  I do not recall him getting burned or anything buy the stove.   He is very hesitant to even come by me when I   am near the sink, or if I am making dinner.

We have tried to figure it out  we do think something happened by the stove, possibly when we were not in the kitchen and the stove was on.   He is making some progress, but I would love some suggestions on how to get him back by in that area.  He goes the long way around to get his food, which is in the kitchen.   We have been praising him when he comes in.

I miss my big furry friend in the kitchen, He does come as close as the dishwasher.

  Thanks for any help !

The only thing I know to try would be a "touch it".  You sort of kneel down in front of the stove, and while saying "here, touch it" you repeatedly touch the stove and repeat the "touch it".  That has worked for me with everything from a baby stroller to a back hoe!  Once he sees that you are ok with it, he should hopefully come up and touch it with his nose and realize it is ok!  Good Luck.
We use the touch command also.
awh - can you try to feed him treats in the kitchen?  or play with him in the kitchen?
I think it's a good idea for dogs to be away from the kitchen...especially when we're cooking.

yeah our oven door and handle gets really really hot and Im always worried Cooper will hurt herself, we have to tell her "out" when its on.... she just wants to be near us but i dont want her flopping on the floor and touching the oven. Plus we have a tiny kitchen!!!!

Maybe you can tempt Wilson into a certain part of the kitchen (ie his food area) with treats and praise, but let him stay away from the oven area

I had a professional oven in a home we had and the entire door got very very hot.  Our lab never went near it but we were worried when there were small children around.  He might have gotten burned and you didn't know it.  I would not encourage him to be in the kitchen if he could possibly burn himself.
Thank u for all of your advice,   I will keep trying but at least have him stay close by the dishwasher and fridge, the stove after careful consideration I think maybe he should be away from it  my DH  would perfer it too
What I wouldn't give for Hunter to be afraid of the counter tops.  She is a professional counter surfer and NOTHING scares her away from them.  The funny thing is my cousin just put a post on Facebook that her New Foundland (sp?) is about 6 months old and just became afraid to go in the kitchen.
Suggestion...Dont try to make too quick a recovery.  I do think you have done right by the praise,  Maybe some treats?  I know it would work for me!! LOL  Think if you were Wilson.  Use your Doodle insight and try to sit in the kitchen and make Wilson comfortable with with a brushing or??? and just dont push too hard, he will pull away.  Good luck and we all love you Wilson..
