I am looking for any info, that anyone may have...
My Old Chow ( Just turned 16) had UTI over 2 weeks ago, and was put on anitbiotics. Since then, his attitude, appetite, everything had improved, he was much happier and active, eating well.
I took the urine sample back to the vet on Thursday, and the vet was happy to see his improvement but he decided to keep him on the antibiotic for a little longer. Also he added the medication called "Ammonil" to acidify his urine so that he will not form crystal(?) in his urine.
I added this Ammonil, Thursday night, Friday morning, and he was totally fine, good appetite and activities. Well, when I came home from work yesterday, after he had gone outside, I noticed that he was not as active. Then, He did not eat his dinner at all, and laid down all night really sick looking.
Same as this morning. He does not seem to be able to get up. His hind legs give. Really sick looking.
I assisted him and went outside, he seems to enjoy that a little, but could not stand for a long time.
I hand fed his food and he ate that. But again, he is just laying there......
I don't know what happened. He was doing soooo well!!
Only thing I can think of is adding this "Ammonil".
We have an apponitment in about 2 hours with different vet, ( Our vet is closed for the weekend) but any information that anyone has in regard to this Ammonil, will be appreciated.

I just spoke with the vet. She said that his white blood cell count is still pretty high, which I knew. I told her that he went out for a short walk, and ate all of his dinner, even though he is still low energy. This is so much better from last night and this morning... he could not even get up this morning!! So, she thinks he is feeling better because of Prednisone, and his problem is somewhere in his disc. related to arthritis. But I am still believing that it is because I took him off of Ammonil..... She said it's fine to take him off of it, since he is on antibiotic. She told me that she and Butter's regular vet Dr. Sweeney went to school together and know each other pretty well. She is suggesting the different antibiotics for Butter, but she said that she will give Dr. Sweeny a call on Monday to discuss today's visit, and fax over the blood work and all of the other documents to him.
I am feeling much confortable now that he seems to feel well. I am not ready for him to go, and I don't think he is ready, either. Thank you all for your support and kind words....
Thanks again... When my son got home not too long ago, he got up and went to the door to greet him. I am causious, but so glad with his improvement.
Thanks for making me smile :-)
Charlie has been good and quiet eventhough she has not gotton much attentions today. ( She is normally jumps right in, like "What about me? What about me?!")
This afternoon, he is back to his old self. Eating well, rushing to the door to go outside, lifting up his leg to pee ;-) etc....
I am so glad about this. Thank you all for your encouragement and support!!
