So I don't know how (there are so many possibilities including potential issue at groomer, snow/ice face plants, scratching with freshly trimmed claws or salted paws) but yesterday afternoon Duncan started to squint his left eye. I took him right in to the vet and they determined he had a corneal ulceration.

I'm assuming that i got him there fast enough to treat without any permanent damage since he had only been squinting for an hour before i took him but holy doodle! I read that if not caught early so many bad things could have happened. We go back on Monday for a re-check to ensure it's healing well.

I'm lucky he's such a good patient. I have to put drops in his eyes, AND ointment AND give him pills.

He just sits and lets me do what i have to do. Pills in cream cheese.

Anyway, if you ever notice your doodle squinting in one eye or pawing at it don't mess around. Take them to the vet.

It's so weird because when i picked him up from the groomer his eye was fine. I even took all those pictures of him for my blog post. So it happened later on in the afternoon i suppose which is why i think it's the snow/ice face plant which maybe he did because his face was itchy from the grooming.

It's great that you reacted quickly...hope Duncan feels better soon.  I have to believe that must be very painful...he's such a good sport.
Good boy Duncan, keep being a good patient for Mommy. My son did that once it is very painful, the drops and cream help relieve it. It does heal quickly in human babies. So I hope it is the same for Duncan. Get well!!
I had a corneal laceration myself once from an icicle. Unbelievably painful but it healed quickly. Good luck with Duncan.
Poor little guy!! I hope he gets better quick!! Good for you to get him right to the vet!!
I hope Duncan feels better quickly, good thing you are such a good doodle mom and took him in!
Duncan, hope your eye is all better soon and what a good boy you are getting your medicine.
I don't know about doodles but I've had it and it was super painful. I could not open my eye. It happened when my daughter was 4 months old and accidentally scratched my cornea with her paper sharp infant nail. Ouch! It took a few days to heal with antibiotic drops but all was well after.

I had never heard of a corneal ulceration until my daughter's little french bulldog Zoey came here for grandma to babysit while they went away for the weekend.

She came will pills and drops because she had developed a corneal ulceration of unknown origion also.  If you held her head sideways and looked at her eye you could actually see a little bubble that stuck out from her eye ball (kind of like a zit).

The vet told them that she might always have a little spot on her eye but she healed up perfectly.

I'm sure Duncan will be good as new soon and it's a good thing you took him immediately upon noticing him squinting.

Get well soon Duncan.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories or well wishes. He's already doing better. I am sure on Monday the vet will say he's healed.
