I wish I had been prepared somehow for all the lost sleep. I should have slept for a month straight to prepare. :-) Or maybe I should have just stocked up on caffeine. That was definitely the hardest part for me though. Congrats on getting your new puppy!
Ooo.. one more thing!  Stock up on canned pumpkin before it's gone from the shelves for the season for those days when the digestive system is upset.

That is a great point Shelly, I forgot about the fact that is virtually will disappear, adding that to my grocery list today.

All of these are great suggestions. Here is mine:

Get a Grandma to come and take care of her for the next month - that's what I did, LOL

Seriously though, the socialization is so important, you don't have to let her "walk" in the pet store you can just "carry" her. And for sure the puppy kindergarten. It's actually tough to find one that goes on anywhere other than PetSmart because the Vets advise against it. We found a personal trainer who held the class, she was much more aware then the young kids at our PetSmart and she made sure the pups area was sanitized and the pups were all UTD at their age for shots. Daisy was 3 months.

We were determined to socialize...our first poodle mix, Zach had been a rescue from a shelter at 5 months, he had NO socialization and found out the hard way, he actually bit a cousin at a family gathering, in the face when he was only 9 months, we were devastated, had no idea he was capable. Of course we loved him to death and just adjusted our lives around the issue.

DH use to call him a lawsuit on a leash. We had to warn everyone who wanted to pet him to stay away (also probably not good), he was so cute and lovable looking people could not accept that he may bite. It was very difficult. We still didn't try training, stupid and young and no DoodleKisses! I mean we tried uneducated training, no Zach no, we were sad excuses for dog trainers.

He lived to be 15 years old and the later years from 10 to 15 he mellowed. We just adored him always. He ended up being loving with everyone, probably from all the love. It took us 5 years to finally get Daisy and do everything we deemed possible to make her a happy well adjusted dog.

Our Guinness was not as cuddly as I had hoped..even at 7wks he was active. As Nancy,Ned & Clancy described active and very alive not a lap dog...Have fun with your new puppy enjoy & take lots of pictures they grow up right before your eyes.
Good luck....can't wait to see the pictures.
This didn't bother me but my husband was alittle upset about it. The accidents Bindi had. I think it was the change of homes from the breeder & our house, & the whole adjustment. We also picked up some of a can of pumpkin for the loose issue. I wasn't that upset because they weren't new rugs. Good luck!  You'll love it!

I remember having forgotten how much you have to watch them EVERY second !  I still can't have her in another room because she is like a little kid that you just know is getting into trouble if you don't hear them and can't see them. At 7 months it's better as I know she is not having any accidents so as long as I know where she is she is okay, but I have to easily visable to keep checking on her or she will eat something she's not supposed to.

We were totally unprepared when we brought home our little dood 2 years ago.  We had arranged for a puppy from a litter that would have been born in January...but I just couldn't stand the wait so I called the breeder in November and she had a litter of 10 puppies ready to go so we got in the car and drove for 3 hours and picked him up the same day.  When we arrived home with him around 11 pm my husband gave him a fuzzy paint roller and he tossed it and rolled it around for about an hour and then fell fast asleep. He LOVED that thing until finally as he got older and he was tearing it apart we thru it away.
Baxter is a double doodle.  I don't see many on here.  He has been a joy and very easy to train in most things.  Matting was the one thing I was not expecting.  We had to shave him and I did not like that at all.  He grew up really really fast so enjoy the sleepless nights and constant watching her and of course the sweet puppy breath!
Oh Baxter is so handsome!  How much does he weigh?  We are amazed at the growth of Millie in just four weeks!  She is over 13 lbs. at 8 weeks old!  The vet thinks she will be quite large...I hope!
Congrats on the addition. How exciting the puppy stage is. Don t forget lots of things to chew on...don't want your shoes to fall victim.
